OK guys. I finelly found my light it was on in my fridge as well. How much electricity are we using with all these lights on the fridges? Well, I got down to busness tonight and wrote another chapter for all of you. As always enjoy.
Chapter ELEVEN
Alexx looked at her boss across his desk. “You did what had to be done to protect a potential witness to the crime. From what I understand she is the only witness we have to these late night dinner robberies.”
Horatio looked down at the copies of files on his desk. None of the other robberies had left a witness. There had been several over the past six months. There wasn’t a lot of money to be had in knocking over these late night dinners but the robbers left no witnesses to the previous robberies. The only reason that Ellen was still alive was her quick wit to pull the fire alarm. But that had not helped the owner who had been the fry cook too. He seemed to forget that Alexx was there and began to tap a finger against his lips as he began to think hard about the evidence that had been collected in all the robberies.
Back at his apartment Ellen was cleaning and taking care of her child. She realized that she was only here for another night but she wanted to let Horatio know how much his kindness was appreciated. As she was cleaning around the desk area she found a picture of a Latino lady with Horatio and Eric. She was standing between them and she was looking up at Horatio with a radiant smile. Ellen turned the picture over and read what was on the back; ‘Horatio and my wedding day with my brother Eric and the date’. There was another picture cut from a news paper along with the story it went with, ‘Mala Nocha Kills Police Officer’s Wife’. It was dated only one week later. She carefully put the pictures and news clipping back in the place that she had found them. Ellen went back into the kitchen and pulled out the flounder that she was planning to make for dinner that evening.
At the Jackson home Mrs. Jackson answered the door to Mike and Jack dressed in Army uniforms. “Mrs. Jackson we are sorry to bother you. But, we were friends of Justin’s and wanted to know if you might know where to find his wife Ellen. We know that she is having a hard time and some of the guys in the unit took up a collection. The last address that we had for her was here.”
Mrs. Jackson looked at the two men and crossed her arms. “I don’t know where she is. I threw her out, when she came home with a man. He said he was a cop. But I got a look at his badge and ID. The ID said Lt. Horatio Caine CSI. You’ll have to go ask him where he took her and my grandchild.” She then turned and walked back into the house closing the front door as she did.
Mike and Jack turned to each other and smiled. Jack spoke up. “I guess we will need to pay a visit to this Lt. Caine.” They turned to leave and Mike replied. “We may just need to make a phone call to the guy. I don’t really want to go to police headquarters. Somebody might recognize us. Before we do anything we will need to call the boss and make sure this is what he wants us to do. Also we need to scope out another dinner like he told us to do. Glad it will be the last. And to think that if he had contacted us a little sooner we would have known that he hadn’t hidden the stuff with her.” He shrugged his shoulders, “What’s done is done. Let’s go find a phone and see what he wants us to do now.”
In the lab there was much evidence being shifted threw and data analyzed by the team that reported to Horatio Caine. One Det. Frank Tripp was going over the report that had been sent to him by the team. “Dead man’s hand tattoo on left side of neck. I know that from somewhere.” He then scooted up to his key board and began to hunt and peck out the information and then sat back and watched his screen.
Horatio heard the knock on his office door frame. He looked up to see the smiling face of Det. Tripp. “Got’cha something, buddy. I think you will find might interesting.”
“If it pertains to these cases of burglary bring it on in. I can use something to break this one loose for us.” He was motioning from Frank to come in as he spoke.
Frank came in and slipped a folder in front of Horatio. Pointing to it he spoke. “I knew when I heard about that tat on the guy’s neck it rang bells. So I did some looking. I find that Justin Jackson was good buddies with two guys in his unit one of which had that same tat in the same place. The two buddies went AOL right after Jackson was killed.” Horatio had picked up the folder. “There’s more that I found out about Jackson. I called in a favor from an Army buddy of mine. That snafu that has kept Ellen Jackson from receiving her widow benefits; the Army doesn’t think he is dead.” Horatio’s head came up with that bit of information, but before he could ask anything Frank continued.
“They also think that he smuggled in a few bricks of heroin. They were following the two buddies but when they went AOL they came to a dead end.” Frank had taken the chair across the desk from Horatio and continued with his information. “The Army has asked that if we find these guys to give them a heads up. Seems they broke a few infractions before they went AOL.” Frank had been chewing on a toothpick as he spoke he removed it and looked at it for a second then back up at his friend. “They had been keeping an eye on the wife in hopes that Jackson would contact her. Seems he made some statement to the fact that he was going to get his kid and leave the wife behind. Speaking of the wife where did you wind up putting her? We need to get her some protection. I don’t think the Army is telling us everything.”

Keeping your muse in the fridge...doesn't seem to be a good idea...you might freeze her up. Well maybe not, you can always put my male muse in there with her...that will heat things up.
Great chapter...and don't you dare put her up with Boa Vista...or is she going to be kidnapped by these 2 *sswipes...will see soon enough, won't I??

This one is a bit longer than the others. But there was a lot I had to do in this chapter. I know that all of you will enjoy.
Chapter TWELVE
Knowing that Ellen might be in danger Horatio told Frank that he needed to leave and take care of the one witness in the string of late night dinner robberies. He also was afraid for her to hear about her husband from anyone but him. All the way to his condo he kept seeing the sweet face of Josephine and Ellen’s smile a he sat eating breakfast. The thought that some men didn’t know what they had. They seemed to throw it away with both hands and leave devastation in the wake of their actions.
As he was slowing down to turn down his street his hummer was hit from behind and from the side. The vehicles that hit him were ½ ton pickups with steel bars for bumpers. Though the hummer was large it was no match for two half tons. It was slammed into the retaining wall on his left. Both the windshield and drivers window glass shattered on impact. Horatio tried to control the Hummer but the force from the two half tons was more than he could fight. He grabbed his handset and keyed the walkie-talkie part. “Officer down! Officer in need of help at Key and Lincoln! Repeat, officer in need of help at Key and Lincoln!” Then the Hummer hit the wall at 30 miles an hour and the air bags deployed. The handset was wrenched from his hand. He could the handset ‘Unit 15 responding to call’ ‘Unit 301 responding to call’ there were others but Horatio wasn’t paying attention to the handset.
He heard the air bags being stab from the other side and the air rushing out of them. He was pinned in his seat by the safety belt and when he could see past the deflating bags he was looking at an two automatic rifles which were pointed at him from both of the masked men. He looked at the men a moment and before they said anything he smiled spoke with his very soft controlled voice. “Gentlemen, I should tell you that several units are on their way here as we speak.” He raised his hands above his head and shook his head from side to side.
“That’s OK Lt. Caine. We just need some information. Where is Ellen Jackson? Tell us that and we don’t need to put a bullet in you.”
Horatio smiled and looked down and when he raised his face again his eyes were like gray blue steel. “What you want is something I am not at liberty to give you.”
One of the men had reached into the cab of the Hummer and grabbed Horatio by his shirt collar. “You better think about that answer again.” He let go of the shirt and as he shoved Horatio back away from him he slammed a fist into the side of his face. Horatio felt it all the way down his spine then he began to taste the acid taste of blood in his mouth. He smiled back at the two men and this time he showed his teeth. The sirens could be heard in the distance getting closer with each second. He swallowed blood and replied. “You’re out of luck on this one. I won’t give you that information and your time is almost up. She is in protective custody and I will not give you the location.”
He felt the blow before it completely registered that he had been hit with the butt of one of the rifles he was out. When he came back to the present he could hear before he saw the people around him. There were several units there, both MDPD and MFD. He could feel a heavy blanket being put around him. Then he heard the metal saw cutting the body of the crumpled Hummer from around him.
He opened his eyes as they pulled the blanket back from him and the first face he saw was Det. Frank Tripp. “H, you never do anything half way.” He held his hand out to help Horatio out of what was left of the cab of the Hummer. “Don’t try this again too soon. My heart can’t take this scene again for awhile.”
As Horatio started to get out with Frank’s help he realized that his left leg wouldn’t obey his command. He looked down and realized that it was pinned by the dashboard and the driver’s door. “Get the jaws of life, my leg is pinned. I think it may be broken.”
It took the firemen another half an hour to get Horatio out of the cab of his Hummer. As the EM’s were putting him on a gurney to go to the hospital his team came up. Horatio sat up and called out to them. Calleigh was the first to his side, followed closely by Eric. “Ellen needs protecting. Get her to safety and keep her there.” He then let the EM’s push him back down on the gurney and put him in the ambulance.
Calleigh turned to Eric and without a word they walked to his Hummer and drove to their boss’s condo.
Ellen heard the door open and she limped into the living room expecting to see Horatio’s face smiling back at her. Josephine was sitting in the middle of the floor and as soon as she saw Eric she began to cry. Ellen took one look at Eric and the petit blond that was with him and swallowed before she asked anything. “Where is he?”
Eric filled her in on what had happened and told her that Horatio had told them to get her into protective custody.
Ellen sat down on the couch and thought for a minute. “Can I first go see him at the hospital?” She was giving her daughter comfort as she spoke. “At least let Josey know that he is OK.”
Calleigh and Eric looked at one another; they both knew that their boss would not want her to come to the hospital. But the only way that Ellen would go into protective custody was to see for herself that Horatio was alright. So they told her that they would take her to see him and then to a safe house.
As she walked into the room where he lay she didn’t know what to expect. But what she saw made her angry, sad and happy all at the same time. Angry that someone would hurt this good man because of her, sad that he was hurt because of her and last happy that he took all of this because of her.
She walked over to the bed and before she could say anything Josephine yelled. “Daddy!”
Horatio opened his eyes and smiled at her. “Why aren’t you in protective custody?” At his voice Josey jumped out of her mother’s grasp and onto the bed with him. “Daddy come home.” Then she reached up and pulled his hair. He wrapped his arms around her and nuzzled the top of her head. “Sweetness, as much as you and I want that to be true it isn’t.” He pushed her away. He then looked at Ellen and clearing his throat he looked down and then he spoke very quickly, because a part of him didn’t want to tell her what had to be told. “The snafu that the Army ran into about your husband is that he isn’t dead.” He told her everything that he had and ended with. “You have to be protected against these thieves and from him and his two buddies. As soon as I am released I will see what we can do to protect you from the legal problem that your husband’s action will put you in.” He looked at Ellen and her daughter.
Ellen took his hand and squeezed it. “I know that you are in here because of me and that information about Justin put the last nail in our marriage coffin. So I will have to get a lawyer and get legal advise on how to get a divorce. You wouldn’t know a good lawyer I could get to take my case pro bono would you?”
He laughed at her question. “Yes, I know several that will help you with that and any other legal matters.”
They talked for a few minutes more and as they spoke about what had happened and why she couldn’t just stay at his place. In the end she had sat down on the side of the bed so that Josey could curl up next to Horatio. “I could just get a chair/bed and stay in here until they let you go home. It would be a lot less to have one officer watching both of us than two officers at different locations.”
Horatio looked at her for a long moment. “That would not be the best for Josey. She needs room to play. Go with the officer and as soon as I can I will come to you.” With this said she bent over and kissed him lightly on the lips. “We’ll get this sorted out.” And with this he put his arm around her and pulled her to him.
When Ellen left she was in the custody of Officer Ben Adams. He was young and had only been on the force about three years. As he opened the door of the car to let her in his body jerked back and fell to the ground. The round dot on his chest began to grow until his shirt became soaked with his blood. Ellen didn’t have time to scream as she felt herself being turned rufley around and she faced her supposedly dead husband. “I will take what is mine now.” He then slapped her and she fell to the ground unconscious.
When she came out of it she realized that it was quiet, too quiet. “Josey! Josey!” She looked wildly about and began to yell. “Help! Help me! They’ve taken my child!”
