Alright this is your final chapter. I know you all will enjoy it. I sure loved writing it. I was cooking with gas (as they say) when I got into this one. As always enjoy.
Chapter 12
His headache was worse than it had ever been. He knew the reason; that Janet kid. He had to cut the pain out. He would do it tonight. He might even do the woodpecker too. He began to make his plans for the evening.
At the Matson house dinner was over and the two adults and two children were in the living room watching a movie. Thomas wasn’t really watching the moving he was playing with Horatio’s shield. Which he had found the leather backing felt good to chew on. There was a bowl of popcorn on the coffee table and Janet had a glass of coke while the two adults had ice tea. There was laughter and great happiness for all that were there.
Just after dark Jonathan Smyth made a trip back down to where the ladies of the night were selling their wears. He made his choice and followed the same pattern as the two previous times. And then he went to the Matson house and waited for the woodpecker to get the call out. Sure enough after about an hour a black sedan pulled up and he saw the red headed cop get in and go off to the site he had just left. He waited across the street and watched as the downstairs lights went out and then the up stairs also went black.
He took out his sling shot and load it with a rock, that was about two inches in diameter; he let the rock fly and it hit the target; one of the new lights on the garage. He then took his stance just out of sight in the dark shadow of the garage. He waited for about an hour then started toward the house.
He got to the back door and took out his small tools and put them to use. He was in side within a few seconds and before the patrol car had time to come by and make a sweep of the area with its beam of light. He stood there for a few minutes, he then began. He pulled out his latex and took off his clothes and put them in a corner. He walked over to the pantry and found the breaker box. He smiled as he flipped the switches. He then made his way up the back stairs.
Gideon was looking at the crime scene and shaking his head. Horatio too felt that something wasn’t right with this one. “This one is not feel right.” This came from Jacque with his heavy French accent. It was as if three light bulbs went on at the same time. All three men said at the same time. “It’s the time.”
Horatio’s face went white as he thought of Francis and the children. He pulled out his phone and pressed the auto dial. The house phone gave him the message that the phone was out of service and when he called Francis’s cell number it went to voicemail. “He’s at the house! GET A PATROL CAR THERE FAST!” He looked at Gideon and they both began to run for the car. Jacque was just a step behind them.
The first door he came to was the woman’s. He went in and was able to tie her up and gag her without any sounds that would wake the others in the house. He then went to the next room. It was as he turned the knob on the girl’s room that he heard the cell phone ringing in the woman’s room. He hurried back to the room and found the cell phone on the bed side table. He watched as the phone stopped ringing and the call went to voice mail. He smiled down at the woman who lay on the bed in terror of this man.
He walked out of the room and again went to the girl’s door. As he opened the door he was assaulted with a smelly wet used diaper. Right behind that came the box of baby powder to the head. All the time that girl child was screaming at the top of her lungs. Then the littler one began to howl.
Janet had opened the window thinking she would crawl out and go get help. But she didn’t have time because she heard him coming back down the hall. She reached into the used diaper pail and got out one that was more than wet and unfolded it and waited for him to open the door.
Officer Piggot heard the call and was just a block over he began to flip switches as his tires began to squeal from speed that he put the patrol car in. Laying rubber with lights and sirens at 10pm was not something a patrol car was suppose to do. He missed the driveway and ended up in the middle of the front yard. The car began to roll backwards as he jumped out and ran for the house. He could hear the screams coming from the upstairs.
He got to the front door and stood back and kicked it in. As he went in he had his gun drawn and was yelling at the top of his lungs. “ARLINGTON POLICE!”
Jonathan heard the racket outside and then the front door being kicked in and the police announcing their arrival. He made a grab for the girl and missed. But she didn’t miss when she launched the open bottle of baby formula at him. It hit him square in the face.
Officer Piggot took the stairs two at a time. He saw the man backing out of the bedroom. “HAULT!” The man turned and made a lunge at Officer Piggot who shot him without a second thought.
The bullet caught Jonathan Smyth directly in the chest and entered the heart. It was a fatal shot and Smyth went down at the officer’s feet.
Horatio was out of the car before it came to a complete stop. He ran into the house with his gun drawn. He found Officer Piggot helping Frances and the children into the kitchen.
Frances was saying that she felt good strong drinks would be need all around and she knew where the liquor was. She saw Horatio at the same time he saw her and stopped the direction she was going in and started towards Horatio. As they met both of them threw their arms around the other and clung to each other. Both were hit by Janet as she flung herself at them. Officer Piggot had Thomas in his arms and he began to cry the only word he seemed to know. “Dada!”
Horatio somehow managed to untangle one arm to grab hold of Thomas and bring him into the family hug.
“I think moving to Florida will be just right for all of us. That is if we can find a place to live.” Francis was looking at Horatio. He smiled down at her and replied. “I will have to get a bigger apartment. I think my family just grew by three.”
THE END

Ok, it's complete, right? That means I can read it all the way through now?
I waited. It was hard! But, I wanted to read it all at once. I'm weird that way.
