I finely finished another chapter. I will be at this again probably Sun or Mon night. I have to take a road trip to OKC this weekend. Things to do people to see. So as always enjoy.
Chapter 6
After processing Janet’s body Horatio picked her up and gave her a big hug. “You,” he pointed his finger at her chest. “Are very brave. Also you knew to call for help. Next time dial 911 and have them call me that way we can get a squad car coming to your aid faster.” He turned toward her aunt Francis. “We seem to have overlooked introductions to your aunt. I am Lt. Horatio Caine of Miami Dade Police Department CSI. This is Inspector Jacque Franks of Interpol. And last but not least is Agent Jason Gideon of the FBI’s BU Department. You must be Francis Matson.” Horatio extended his hand and Francis
As she took it she realized that this man had formed a bond with her niece when he was on the plane ride with her. She could tell the bond was just as strong for the man as it was for the child. He had a big grin on his face as the two of them sat down and talked quietly in the corner. Ever so often Horatio would push a stray hair away from her face as the talked.
What Francis didn’t know was that Horatio was getting information about the intruder. He was trying very hard not to upset Janet. Gideon and Jacque were talking with Francis and gathering information from her. After a bit Gideon turned to Horatio. “Are we good to go?”
Horatio put his forehead to Janet’s and smiled at her. “You will be OK here with your Aunt Francis. I may not be as fast next time when you call. But I am always a phone call away for you.” Janet threw her arms around Horatio’s neck and began to whimper. Horatio hugged the child to him and cooed in ear. “I know the world doesn’t make sense to you but it will as you get older. For now you have to hang on to your aunt and your brother. Family is important.” He paused as he pulled her away from him and looked into her eyes. “I have to go and catch the bad guy. You have given us so much more information on the bad man than anyone else and this will help my friends and me to catch him.”
Janet turned to look at Jacque Franks and said. “Why does he call you his little frog?” Everyone laughed at her question.
Inspector Franks leaned over to her and whispered. “Sometime other people call French people (he pointed to himself) this when they want to be not so nice to us. We French people do not always like to be called frogs. So, little Janet; please never call a French man a frog. It is not a kind thing to call us.”
Janet’s eyes became as large as saucers as he spoke and she put her small hand on his cheek as she replied to him. “I will not call you a frog. When you help Horatio catch the bad man we will tell him he is not to cal you a frog anymore.”
At this everyone laughed because Janet was so serious. Horatio gave her a hug and sat her down and told her that she really did need to go to bed. He was going to be checking back with them tomorrow and the Gideon told Francis that he knew of a fund that he could request to pay for a security system to be put into their house. “I don’t think our man will come back but he did make the threat. We will also make sure that there are extra patrol cars in this area.” He then turned to Horatio and said. “Janet has told our unsub that her daddy works for the Miami Dade Police Dept. I think we should keep the story line in tact. Ms. Matson, we are going to use your household to trap this man. He needs to be caught before he kills again. I am going to assign Lt Caine to stay at your house for a few days. He will be in and out. This man is one of the most dangerous that there are. He has eluded Interpol in Europe for the last two years and now he has started his killing here. But he made a mistake tonight. I think he will try again and soon.”
Yes, he had mad a mistake. But as he sat in the abandoned house that was cold and damp he began to form just what his next steps would be. He would have to watch the house for awhile and get their routine down and then he would go back. He would have to find out about her daddy. How had he missed the fact that there was a man in the picture? He thought it over and decided that the woman was a divorced woman and the children must have been with the daddy while he was casing the house. He thought about his Google research. It had always worked in the past. How could it have been so wrong? He tried to remember if he had left anything behind for them to find. The cord he had used on the little girl was the telephone cord and the rag was from the house as well. The US would not have anything on him. He was an Englishman and therefore was not in the computer data banks.
He looked at his bedroll and decided that he would just go to sleep and start again tomorrow. Yes, tomorrow would bring better things. It always did. Maybe he should go to the next woman. She was in D.C., not far and that would through a snag in their little drag net. Yeah, I will go do her and come back to this one and that kid. He had never done a kid but then what was the difference? A few years that was all.
Horatio told Francis that he would be back in a few hours. He needed to check out of his hotel and get his bags. He smiled as she pushed a strand of dark brown hair back behind her ear. She looked about the living room. “The sofa makes into a bed. I will get you a blanket and pillow also I will give you a key to the house.” Her search of the room came back to this man that she had just met and she was giving a key to house too. “This is so strange. I am sorry to have drug you into this.”
Horatio put his hands on his hips and looked at her. “Ma’am, this is not your fault. I just want you to let me and my friends worry about catching this man before he can hurt anyone else.” The rest of the group had gone out the back door and it was just the two of them standing there in the middle of her living room. Now that the rush of adrenaline was gone she began to shake uncontrollably. Horatio took two steps toward her and grab her as her knees gave way.
“Oh. What brought that on?” She asked as she put a hand to her forehead. She then looked into his deep blue eyes. They were so caring and filled with worry for others. He helped her to the sofa.
“Sit here for a little while before you start back up the stairs.” He told her as he knelt in front of her.
She looked at him again and realized that this was a good man. “I will sit here until you return. Then I will get you that blanket and pillow.”
He got up and told her that he would return as soon as possible.
