For some reason my post didn't hold this morning before I left. So here it is and as always enjoy.
Chapter 9
Gideon, Franks and Caine went over all the cases by themselves. There was another team going over the cases in another room trying to determine what the man’s next move would be. This was their job. They were very good at it. Finely Gideon slapped the table with both hands and scooted his chair back and stood up. “Gentlemen we need to rest. Come back to all this in the morning with fresh eyes. I think that we may have a few days before his next kill. So let’s all go home and try to get some sleep. I will tell the other team as well. We will have a double unit meeting in the morning to see what each unit has come up with.”
Everyone stood up and most of them stretched their bodies. Then everyone headed for their vehicles to take them to their homes to get what sleep they could after looking through all the gruesomeness of what the unsub had left in his wake.
Horatio stepped out of the car and looked around. It was well after midnight and the new security measures had been installed. The garage had lights on the corners so that no one could hide there in wait for someone to pull in the drive. The hedges had been trimmed. New locks had been installed.
He smiled as he put his key in the lock and turned it. He opened the door and smelled the aroma of a fish dinner that lingered in the kitchen. He saw a light in the living room still on. He walked in to find Francis sitting in a recliner reading. Janet was curled up on the sofa and Thomas was asleep at the other end.
Francis looked up from her book. “You as quiet as a church mouse. I didn’t hear the lock on the back door.” She then turned her head and looked at the two children. “They wanted to wait up for you. I told them they could sleep on the sofa until you came in. I think that Janet has been having nightmares and I felt she needed to be reassured that you were all right.”
Horatio walked over to the sofa where Janet lay and bent down on his knee and looked at her sleeping. He reached up and stroked her hair and she opened her eyes. “Hello sleepy head.”
She smiled and reached out for him. He took her in his arms and she gave him a bear hug. “Did you catch the bad man?”
Horatio continued to stroke her hair as they talked. “No sweetheart. He is still out there. But you know what? I have a lot of help looking for him. Let’s get you and your brother to bed.” They both stood up and Horatio bent over and picked up Thomas. The three of them walked up stairs to their bedroom and Horatio tucked the children into bed. He kissed Janet on the forehead and told her to sleep tight. He left the hall light on and the door cracked then he went back down stairs.
Francis was still sitting in the chair when he came back down. She looked at him and could tell that he was worried. “You’re having problems with this one?” Horatio nodded as he sunk down in the other chair.
He sat there with his head down looking at the floor between his shoes. He was going over all the evidence from the each case and putting them in his own type of order. In all the time that the man had been on his killing spree only once had he messed up and left someone behind, Janet.
Francis broke into his thoughts. “Have you had dinner?”
Horatio sat up a little straighter and turned to look in her direction his eyes began to focus back on the room and who was there. He smiled a tight lipped smile and replied. “I had a sandwich earlier.”
Putting her book down and standing up she looked down at this strange man that had come into her life because of circumstances outside her control. “What time was that? I would hazard to say about lunch time.” Again Horatio gave a tight lipped smiled and just nodded his head.
Francis threw her hands up in the air and muttered. “How do these workaholics stay alive is beyond me. Come on Horatio I have a dinner plate for you in the oven.” She reached down and took his hand and gave a gentle pull.
He got up and followed her into the kitchen. As she walked past the archway she reached out and flipped the light on. She walked to the oven and took out a plate then headed over to the cabinet where the microwave was and putting the plate in the microwave she reached out and grabbed a paper towel to put over it. She closed the door and set the timer. She then turned to see Horatio standing there again lost in his thoughts. She pointed to a chair at the table and commanded him to sit which he did. She prepared the place setting and got him a glass of iced tea. When the timer went off she went over and grabbing a pot holder she reached in and took the plate out and brought it to him.
When she sat the plate down in front of him the aroma seemed to drag him out of his thoughts. He looked at the plate of food picked up a fork and put a bite in his mouth. His next reaction was just as Francis had thought it would be. The temp of the food was hotter than what he had expected and he grabbed up the tea and began to drink it in big gulps. “Now, if you don’t wolf the food down you might actually taste it.”
She sat down across from him as he began to eat the food with attention to what he was doing. “You know, Horatio; your job is to catch this man. But in the mean time you need to remember that life is worth living. If you lose yourself in the hunt and never enjoy life then the bad guys win.” When he looked up from his plate she realized she had hit a nerve. His eyes showed that he had lost much of himself in the hunts that he had been on as well as this one. “You want to talk about it? I will listen to whatever you want to say.” He began to talk about his life in Miami. His brother and his family, his own wife, his friend Speed and the others that he had lost because he felt he had failed them.
Outside the man had driven past the house several times, each time he would be in a different car. The lights were still on and he could tell that they were still up. He finely decided that he would leave it for the next evening.

Well I hit the keys on the run and here is the latest installment. As always enjoy.
Chapter 10
He thought about it a moment and decided to throw a curve at the special unit with the FBI. He drove down to the street where the night people were still active and looked at the women selling themselves. He chose a red head. After she got in the car he drove to a secluded lot and as she was about to perform her deed he sliced her throat. He sat there a moment and then he calmly got out of the car and disrobed. He then opened the back door of the car and took out the plastic bags he put on the clothes there and washed his hands and face with the 2 gallons of water there. He then went to the trunk of the car and got out the two gasoline cans. He poured half of one on the interior of the car. Then he poured the others can all over the car. He walked a bit away and dug words in the dirt and poured the other half in the trench the words had created. He had a motif thingytail made and he lit it and threw it into the car. The car went up with a woof of sound and was engulfed in flame. He then sat the trench letters on fire.
He started walking down the street. He was several blocks away by the time the fire trucks got there.
Horatio’s phone began to ring about 5 am that morning. He grabbed it and answered drowsily. “Caine here.” He heard the voice of Gideon.
“He struck again last night. He isn’t letting much time lapse between kills. How soon can you be ready?”
Horatio had sat up on the side of the bed he knew the ringing of the phone had awakened Francis, but he was still trying to be considerate of the fact that they had been up till just a few hours ago. “I can shower and be ready in 15 minutes.”
“I will have a car there in 10 forget the shower and shave.”
Horatio flipped the cell phone closed and looked over at Francis. Before he could say a thing she spoke. “I will let Janet know that you were called out early for work.” She sat up and touched his cheek with right hand, using the left one to hold the sheet over nudeness. He bent into her and kissed her lips; he then pushed her hair back and smiled. “I am not sure how we ended up like this but I can’t say that I am not pleased with the results.” She smiled back at him and replied. “Nor am I.”
He then got up and grabbed up his clothes as he headed for the door. It took him less than 10 minutes to get ready. He did put on some aftershave to cover up his the scent of his resent night activity. He would stop and get a cup of coffee at the McDonalds where they had breakfast just a few days before.
When he got to the crime scene both Gideon and Franks were already there. “Gentlemen, what do we have?” Other than the five o’clock shadow one would not know that he had not had much sleep the night before.
Gideon pointed to the trench note that had been left for them. It said ‘5 and counting’. He then went over what was found; which wasn’t much. The fire had destroyed any fingerprints and most of the evidence. The body was there but the ME would have to let them know how she had died. The car had a vin number which was being ran.
He turned to Horatio and Franks. “This isn’t his normal pattern. But the note tells us this is his doing. It also tells us that he didn’t do any research on this one. Something has put him off his game track.”
Franks spoke up in his thick French accent. “I think it is our little Janet that has thrown him off. He has never left a witness before. I think this is upset him.”
Horatio nodded in agreement. “I believe you are correct Jacque. Our man has a fixation on Janet and he can’t go on until he finishes what he started. This means that she is in grave danger until we stop him.”
They left the crime scene and went back to the shop to add this information to what they already had. They knew that the unsub was becoming more unstable and that the longer he could be kept from getting to Janet the more likely he would be to make a mistake that would help them catch him. And catch him they would.
Horatio walked into the house just as Francis was setting the table for supper. Janet squealed with excitement at seeing him. She ran and threw herself into his waiting arms. Horatio held her tight and made a silent promise that he would not let that man have this innocent child.

Got that rascael of a muse to sit down and help me get this chapter out.
Chapter 11
He awoke with another headache. He knew they were coming on him faster than ever. His need to cut the pain out was what drove him to repeat the same pattern of 2 nights before. When he was walking away he saw a young boy on a bike coming toward him and he turned his face, but not before the boy got a good look at his face.
Horatio’s phone rang on the bed side table and he reached over and picked it up. “Caine here.” He responded as he put the cell phone to his ear. He heard Gideon’s voice tell him there had been another killing but this time they had a witness to the identity of the killer and a print. When Gideon told him they had a print Horatio sat up in the bed. “How did he leave that behind?”
Gideon laughed. “When the gasoline caught fire it blew one of the two gasoline cans out of the car we actually have a whole left hand set of prints. God is smiling on us. I’ll have a car there in 10 minutes.” He hung up.
Horatio turned and looked at Francis and he bent over and kissed her cheek. “I gotta go.”
She opened her eyes and rolled over on her back. “They got a break in the case didn’t they?”
“Actually we got two good breaks last night.” Holding up two fingers he smiled at her. “I think we have a good chance at getting this guy now.” He bent over and gave her a kiss. “I don’t know when I will be back tonight.”
When he sat back up her hand stroked his left cheek. “Are they going to give you time to shave today?”
He shook his head and smiled at her. “I think I am going for the Crocket & Tubbs look again today.” He rubbed his chin and laughed out load. “When this is over we need to talk about all of this.”
Horatio arrived at the scene about 30 minutes later. It looked very much like the one from two days before except for the note and the gasoline can and the witness. The note was tacked up on a telephone pole ‘6 and counting’ below the first not was a second; ‘heard you were here frog and got you a red headed woodpecker to help you’.
When the prints were ran it came up with a name and a picture of one Jonathan Smyth.
Horatio looked at the note then at Gideon. “Our unsub seems to have overlooked the FBI Gideon.” To which Gideon shrugged.
They worked the site and took the information back to Quantico to go over and put into the mix of information about their unsub. They worked on the information until it was about 6pm and Gideon said it was time to go home and get a good nights sleep. As Horatio passed Gideon a smile came across Gideon’s face. “H try to get a little more sleep tonight.”
Horatio gave him his best hide yourself behind a mask stare. “I always do, Gideon. I always do.” And he put on his sunglasses and walked out the door to the waiting car.
When he walked in for dinner that evening everyone was in a happy mode. Janet set the table for four and was so happy that she skipped around the table as she placed the silverware on the table. After she finished she turned to Horatio. “Are we going to go live in Miami with Uncle Horatio when he catches the bad guy?”
Both Horatio and Francis stopped what they were doing and turned to face Janet. Francis found her voice before Horatio. “What in the world are you talking about?” Horatio was staring at Janet with his hands on his hips and a tight smile on his face.
Janet walked over to her aunt and looked up at her as she replied. “Only Mommies and Daddies sleep in the same bedroom. But sense you are my aunt that would make Horatio my Uncle and he is from Miami. So we would either stay here or we would have to move to Miami with Uncle Horatio.”
Francis and Horatio looked at each other and they both started to laugh. As Horatio wiped a tear out of his eye he said. “I told you we were going to have to talk about all of this tonight. “
