Lucy Well it says he changed his diet from eating rice, bread and dishes with a lot of amylose (don't know if it's the right word, if not...please tell me what the right word is) into a diet of food with high protein. Translation of the dutch tv guide for May 19 till may 25 2007.
OK....here we go.
An ordinary day on the set of CSI Miami. For 1 CSI Miami show of 43 minutes there are more then 100 people working for atleast 12 hours a day. What 1 day on the set looks like? Actors Emily Procter, David caruso and Adam Rodriguez will take you with them.
6.00am: Make up.
Waking up slowly in the make-up room. Because the forensic detectives in CSI Miami are working the day shift, they film as much as possible with natural daylight. And so they start at 6.00 in the morning. The actors put on their "work outfit", get some make up and go over their lines some more. Emily Procter (Calleigh Dusquesne) is usually wide awake when she enters the make-up room. "at 5 in the morning, I'm already dancing in my room...it helps me to get through the morning."
8.00am rehearsing lines.
Discussing with director and writers. Between the production of the initial idea and the actual broadcast of 1 episode is only 6 weeks. The actors seldomly know what their character is going to experience in the near future. Adam Rodriguez (Eric Delko) says: "most of the time we are the ones who gets informed last. So it mostly comes down to when you get a script to read you suddenly realise: Oh, so that's what's going to happen!" To make sure the actors fill in the right form of the script...the writer is always there on the set, to give them background information to certain storylines and characters. But the actors are already so familiar with their character, that sometimes at their request certain lines get changed.
9.00am: ACTION!
CSI Miami is since quit a while the most watched series in the world. How come?? "Because of Miami" says David caruso (Horatio caine) explicit. "We try to capture the international allure of the city as much as we can. With that we touched a very sensitive cord with the viewers, because you feel Miami when you watch the show." The procucers have a good eye for detail, therefor the action scenes are of very good filming quality. However, a budget of 2 million dollars per episode is not enough to actually film the series in Florida. The beach scenes take place in Manhattan beach (under Los Angeles) in California and the Miami Dade crime lab is actually in the town called Hawthorn, California. About 6 times a year the cast and crew fly to Miami to film specific scenes, much to delight of the actors. Adam Rodriguez: "Although we have to work very hard there aswell, in Miami we take more time for each other. We break the daily routine, we are away from family and friends and therefor we hang out with our colleaugues a lot more. We go out for dinner together and we go out to the club....a great time."
13.00: Lunch.
At exactly 13.00pm all the employees get picked up by a mini bus and get dropped off 100 metres further down (!) to have lunch. The actors enjoy eating together with the rest of the cast and crew. The catering prepares different dishes every day. Chicken legs, spareribs, mahi-mahi (fish) and potato au gratin could all be on the menu. But the wishes of individual actors are also being granted. The ones from David Caruso for example."I quit eating rice, bread and dishes with a lot of amylose. Now I only eat food with high protein, I lost almost 10 kilo's in the last couple of months".
15.00: Recording in the studio.
Almost every indoor recording takes place in the Ralleigh studio's in Manhattan beach. In here all the temporary sets are being build and also the permanent spaces get decorated here....So, also the freigtening autopsy room. The 1st two seasons the actors had great difficulties with the sometimes gruesome mutilated "bodies" that were lying there. "The 1st six months of CSI Miami I thought with every scene which involved a corpse: I can't do this!" says Emily "You can't distinguish those bodies from real, it's that scary. Now I know that almost every bodypart is made out of food, primarely chocolate...I can't act serious with a corpse no more. Do you know how hard it is to look serious if someone smells like chocolate?, but I never lick evidence!".
17.00: Time for a short break.
Every shooting day of CSI Miami takes between 12 and 16 hours. "How I keep up with that? Lots of coffee, haha!", Says Adam. The regular actors have their own trailer, where on these kind of moments, they can be alone for a while. "But we also hang out with each other a lot", tells Adam. "Jonathan Togo (Ryan) and I are quit close; he's great. And Emily, the sweetheart, with her I also have a very good relationship. Yeah, you can say that we all became good friends." When Emily doesn't talk to a colleaugue she spents every free minute she has doing sports. She runs often or is dancing in her trailer. "On a long day like this, I have to watch out I don't fall in. 90% of the day your standing, mostly waiting. Therefor I excersise a lot, it gives me energy."
20.00: The day is finished.
Another 7 or 8 of these long days and the actors have done their job for one episode which eventually takes 42 minutes en 51 seconds. This schedule repeats itself 25 times a year during a period of 10 months. Ofcourse the cast has their occasional quiet week and around Christmas they're off. But the actors don't have to count on a holiday between half july till end of april (that's the shooting period for the series). Or they have to see their little visit to Miami as a holiday. Fortunatly David, Emily and Adam have another 7 weeks off to recharge for the new 6th season of CSI Miami. Adam: "And I'm going to spent them well. Because now that I work so hard, I appreciate it even more when I can finally do something for myself."
That's it...hope I done alright.

Lian, you rock.
Amalose is supposed to be Amalase I believe.
Amalase is an enzime that converts starches into simple sugars or rather glucose. And the simple sugars and glucose that don't get used up by the body as energy during the day get's stored as fat. It's found in the pancreatic juices and in a lot of plants.
It's smart to cut down on eating those things but the high protien diet wreaks it's own havac on your body. I really hope he's being smart about it.
