For what it is worth, here is my take on last night's episode. There were two things that made this less than an exciting return after the holiday break. First, the suspects occassional smirks, led me to believe he knew what he was doing. I lost interest in his plight when he was less than honest with the team. I did like how the team was divided on this: Frank and Ryan sure that the young man was guilty and Horatio and Calleigh willing to look deeper.
The second thing I did not like at all was the dialog between Calleigh and Eric. Horatio and Yelina all over again. Geez! These scenes were teasers, set up to draw us to the episode but no one seems to know how to write scenes where someone has to show or feel real emotion. Calleigh's dialog was not too bad, but Eric was the one who started things rolling and then he "clam's up" right at the moment when she gives him an opportunity to smile and say something that will achieve what he apparently wants. Even teenagers aren't that awkward anymore.
The head gear equipment looked interesting and I thought that scene was one of the best of the evening. It was nice to see Horatio pat the guy on the shoulder at the end, although he had much more compassion for the young twerp than I did.

Hmmmm, sounds like quite a good ep with it's pros and cons, but I've got a question for the American ladies who are able to watch this new season right now... Do the trailers raise the attention of the viewer to a higher level than the recent ep is finally able to deliver? Is it possible that they advertise a "Wow"-ep and finally it turns out to be an "O.K."-one? And I don't want to start a discussion about the different levels of expectation, which still seems to exist here... @karen: You could probably start a new discussion-thread about your idea, whether H got darker and all the other points? I will be glad to join in, even from this remotest part of view... ;D

@ sundancer: Yep. Obviously I put my query's in the wrong place, didn't I? Will think about where to put "Discussion of the Season 7 Series" and see if it generates any dialog elsewhere. One of the problems, though, is that there are so few of us watching Season 7. Any conversation leaves out all those not living in America.

I thought it *. Honestly. Horatio was awesome of course but it just wasnt CSI: Miami.
I dont know why I just didnt like it, to me it was lame, and took to long to get into the story.
Nother thing I didnt like was like that -- it was just stupid... I mean they had a great storyline and they like destroyed it.
so yeah, I'm hoping next week is better.

Well. It wasn't the best episode. I was interested to see the storyline, to see how it played out and it wasn't to exciting. About 30 minutes into it, I wasn't all that excited anymore. I did enjoy the scene with Eric and Calleigh. Honestly, I don't think they should be paired...in my opinion it'd be a little wierd or awkward.
But next week looks good. And was that Ryan fighting? That's gonna be good. Can't wait for next week!

@ Karen............yes it is hard for us Europeans to join in too much because how ever clear and precise the members in the US describe an episode......they do not conjure up in my mind anyway the whole of the episode and I really like to see a whole episode for myself before giving any sort of opinion. Also, I don't really like to come in too often because it rather spoils the anticipation for when we do get the chance to see the series. Although as you can see I do sneak in now and again. There seems to be two different opinions between you re this partciular episode....so without seeing the epi in reality it is very hard to say which side I would come down on. However, I would at this stage like to give the episode the benefit of doubt and say that I will enjoy it whatever. So Emily I guess I am with you on this one ;D From what I have been reading too date you have been enjoying a mostly good season so I am wondering if you are maybe just expecting just a bit too much now. It is an over the top series so not everything is likely to be perfection as we maybe wish to see. Just to finish I would say I absolutely love the one liners......keep them coming Horatio. Margaret

I was talking to my mom about it last night, at like one am, and we where talking about how we miss the old episodes, where Horatio was in the lab alot more, and it wasnt so over dramatic, and the acting was good and pure,
Dont get me wrong I love the Horatio now, but back then it was sooooo different, and I dont know why they just dont go back to the way it was before.
Because it was soooo good back then, and now its just... blah..
Although the episode before the break is so far one of my favorites.

This has really been an exciting season with top-notch episodes almost every week. It could be that is why I expected more. I am so 'over' main characters having romances with each other and would like to see some of the lesser regulars, like Boti Bliss, get a chance to flirt a bit. We have not talked about the new lab guy. He is quite attractive and get this: HE TALKS WITH A BRITISH ACCENT! Weren't we just having a discussion about that a short while ago? I failed to get his name but I plan to keep my attention focused in his direction! Doggone, he's cute!
Horatio was seen in a labcoat although I suspect the close-up work was done by a stand-in. He did look through a microscope, hit a few computer keys and analyzed evidence. That was good to see.
And at the risk of repeating myself, that electronic cap gizmo was pretty interesting. Just as I was thinking the device could make me pretty claustrophobic, the character yanked it off. Phew.
Ryan and Frank were very good in their doubt of the young man's amnesia. Both had some good action and lines. So the whole episode was not one big "blagh" , just more of a yawn.
When I found out that the murdered family had a son at military school, I just knew he was bound to show up and to be connected in some capacity. Predictable action there.
So my feelings are mixed this week. At least next week we get to see horses --- Yippee!

If we're talking about over the top, then I have to say something. The previous episode (Tipping Point) was more over the top than this one. H running into a building wired to explode and grabbing the girl and running out of the house while carrying her just as the house explodes...That's what was over the top. This episode didn't have any of that. It was straightforward. And reasonable. No moments that made me think, "Oh come one. That would NEVER happen." But...then again it's just my opinion.

@ Emily.........I wasn't implying that Head Case was over the top.....how could I possibly tell.....not having seen the episode. My comment about over the top was just a general comment about the whole of the series. And anyway what is the matter with something being a bit over the top at times.........this is not a factual real life program.
@ Karen.......yes there was a discussion about the British accent in another thread. You made me curious because so far haven't heard any news about a british actor appearing in CSI Miami. Anyway, looking at a cast list in an episode guide if I read it correctly then Michael Travers is the new lab guy. If this is the case the actor is Christopher Redman who was born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.......but, whilst he was at the Canada Youth Academy he did a 4 year speech and drama course at Trinity College, Cambridge via correspondence course......so this could well be how he picked up a British accent.

As much as Tipping Point was over the top it was amazing. The part where he went into the building was rather obnoxious but he did it quite well, and with Horatio style, But the storyline of the episode was one of the purest, closest to the old seasons of CSI I have seen in a while, the episode that aired last night was just BLARGH..
I was sincerely dissipointed in it.
Next Week looks good lets hope the previews are as good as the episode. >.>;
AND I would like to point out
I do kind of miss Rick...>.>; Anyone else? xD

@margaret: So Christopher Redman is his name, eh? Thanks for looking back to the original entry. And he picked up a British accent through a correspondence course?? Tricky! But I suppose people from Toronto can sound a bit British. I grew up 130 miles south of Winnipeg and when we visited there, I thought the people all sounded like they grew up in England. Regardless, he does stand out amongst the lab tech crew. Wake up, Valera!

@margaret--I wasn't intentionally directing that at you by any means. It was just a general statement. I've heard people discussing the over-the-top-ness of certain episodes. em
