I don't know if I want to see H fall back in love with her - after all, she still is a criminal despite her disorder - she was fully in control of her faculties during those days - but it was a heart wrencher to say the least - but I would like to see continued drama in how they will cope with the disorder for Kyle's sake. Seeing and feeling Horatio's pains and frustrations was a great throw back to the earlier days of Horatio - when he was so obsessed with seeing a case through to the end. Major kudos to David for stretching himself to the ends of the earth for this one. And I actually have to give a standing ovation to all the actors - every single one of them brought something to the table - there was genuine chemistry with each scene - everything gelled so brilliantly. The end scene was priceless - not a word needed to be said to understand perhaps why things happened as they did in their past relationship. At first, I was totally uneasy with it and I still don't care to see H and Julia rekindle old flames - as I do want to see H and Yelina together in the end - but this storyline really drew in real life issues and they were done brilliantly. I had little knowledge of the disorder but this was played out so well that I totally could understand the kind of life Julia must be living when not on her meds and how important it is that she stay on them. My only gripe is why was H on the case to begin with? Shouldn't he have recused himself due to his personal connections?
Seeing H play "Dad" with Kyle was awesome - he was firm and to the point - something every parent needs to keep in mind - Horatio wasn't being a guy pal to his son but a real father. Excellent! Yes, the pair needs to have a firm heart to heart.
Where is this interview with EB and DC? I missed that one and I'd like to see it if it's posted somewhere... is there going to be more with Julia? I thought she was only signed on for three epi's this season... inquiring minds want to know...

Your all right about it saying 1000000 words... with no sounds nothing from them.. BUT to be perfectly honest I DO NOT want Horatio and her to get together... I just dont... HE doesnt need a bipolar idiot taking him down... and since Marisol I dont know if they really thought about it, Would Horatio have recovered so quickly? I mean your wife dies in your arms and... you even after all of this time, after Juila sent him to Rio to be charged with Murder. Would you go back to her?
I may stop watching the show if they do get together... UGH!
But, the episode was good and my favorite part was before Eric came in and he was trying to scower the car for evidence... Yeah that was CUTE.

I can certainly see him befriending her for Kyle's sake but I don't want to see him get involved with her romantically. I really think there is something underlying the words that guy said to H about her taking him down... I hope he keeps that in mind and remains honest to himself. As far as him being over Mari, I think enough time has passed, but I get the feeling that Julia will be a part of H's life even for a short time until she really takes him for a ride - maybe that's something to come and will open the door for Yelina to step in. Someone said on another board that they hope Yelina comes in and decks Horatio back to his good senses. But, being the kind of guy that he is - he always goes for the underdog and Julia is hitting rock bottom right now - so don't put it passed the writers to hook them up... I've already threatened to boycott if he gets involved with her but I have a feeling that's going to be inevitable right now - until she takes him down and really - do we want to see Horatio hurt yet again romantically speaking??? The guy needs a good stable lady who can compliment him in every way and that lady is Yelina...

But see, if he gets involved with Yelena, he'd be sleeping with his sister inlaw...and Raymond Jr. Would become his Nephew and his Stepson...and thats like....HUH?! xD
I dont know I just really really hope the writers dont put him and Julia together because last night's episode made me start to wonder, if This was just a plan of Ultimate betrayel on Julia's part, and if Sarius is involved, even now...
And then I was thinking about it, and Maybe Juila is still trying to take Horatio down... and he just isnt seeing it yet.
UGH! and then there was no PREVIEW for next week which ticked me off big time!

Just watched the episode again and still can feel the power of all the emotions the show invoked! I must say that I have always enjoyed watching David Caruso act but last night he was at his best - perhaps due to seeing him going from the caring, dynamic, powerful man from the first few seasons to the broken, guilt-ridden man man in the past few seasons to what we saw him portray last night - David Caruso is an absolutely talented actor. And the rest of the cast as well - everyone worked so well together as a team. I enjoyed reading the comments on other sites about how well done this particular episode was and DC is finally getting the praise he so rightly deserves. I also was amused by other comments that H is getting "weaker" instead of "darker" like everyone was predicting. Well, in my book, the strength of a man isn't in how hard he hits or fights back, but in how tender he touches ... and H/DC certainly showed this in the final scene of last night's episode!
Now, back to the story itself, again I must say that it is still a bit difficult for me to see H getting back together with Julia - especially after what the attorney said about Julia taking him down too. I think it's time for H to finally find the inner peace and love that he is so deserving of. He needs a woman who is strong, who can take care of herself, who knows about his past and accepts him as he is. He has walked the lonely road for far too long now and it's time for someone to join him on his journey. I really don't think that it would be Julia. My hope is that they develop a relationship that is good not only for themselves but for Kyle as well - that is so important. (H/DC certainly knows how to portray a loving father!) I don't think it's Yelina 'cause always in the back of his mind she is his brother's wife. But as far as a true, loving relationship is concerned, I'm still leaning towards H and Calleigh. But that is just my opinion.
Whatever the case may be, let's sit back and see how this story unfolds. Like I said before, if the writers continue to do excellent work like last night, we certainly won't be disappointed - no matter how it turns out!

Once again, that was nicely said, Dragonfly. I agree and while I want Horatio to find his intellectual and capable equal, last night revealed something to me that I have suspected for awhile. Horatio is drawn to those who are flawed or fallen. It does not matter if they are ill (Julia and Marisol) or if they have yeilded to the wrong side of the law (Susie and Julia). He wants to help Yelina, although not as much now as when Ray, Jr. was a factor. And like you said, HC, there is the history she had with his brother, which is far more than a "speedbump". I personally do not think we will see Ray, Jr. again unless he turns out to be a "baddie". He and Calleigh are too far apart in age to become romantically involved (IMHO). I really do not think she would be interested in an "older" man --- she has her father, although he seems to have disappeared, too, of late.
We don't seem too interested in the "A" plot, do we? Perhaps it is enough to say that the team solved the case with competence and cooperation. I especially liked Togo's performance. I hope we have seen the last of Ryan's weaknesses and can now enjoy watching him being at his professional best like he was in this episode. The new M. E. is also developing into an interesting character and I'd like to learn more of her history.
I think someone else said this and it is just a minor quibble: Horatio is supposed to be the bomb expert so it did seem a little strange that he did not examine the dress himself. But we can't have it all folks, and last night we had quite a lot!

Karen--I had the same thought about H and the bomb. Wouldn't he have been able to assess the damage at the crime scene and figure out that the bomb was ON the girl? *sigh*
Also--I agree with the "A" plot analysis. It was fine--not too thrilling, but strong enough. It actually supported the "B" plot quite nicely. Filled in the gaps and kept the episode from being PURELY about Julia.
I, for one, am quite intrigued about H's feelings for her. It's evident in those last few caps that he still cares deeply for her, and the look she gave him seemed to reciprocate those feelings. While I'd rather see H with a 'perfect' woman, how WONDERFUL it would be to see H have the family he always wants. To be married to the mother of HIS son. (Not his BROTHER'S son, if you catch my meaning.) That's why I'm liking the idea of H and Julia more and more.

oh, dragonfly, I SO agree with you there... there is plenty that can still unfold. I've gotten into many discussions concerning the Y/H relationship and it certainly can work - the fire is still there and as I have explained to others that there are cultures that accept such relations as normal when a spouse passes. She's got all the strength and stability H would need - they do care for each other deeply and it can work. As much as I am not a C/H fan, she's a good woman for him too but I think she respects him more than she would ever love him. I do want to see her end up with Eric - there is great chemistry there and after seeing the little glint in her eye when she walked away from Eric at the end of "How does that make you kill", I can certainly see them ending up together. H does need some inner peace but all along it has been him walking the lonely path that has kept him obsessed to do good. Taking that inner demon away from him might pull some punch from his obsession to be the voice of those who have been victimized. It's been his inner turmoil that has prodded him on. My feeling is that "they" won't hook him up into a permanent relationship until CSI Miami is ready to ride off into the sunset.
And YES, DC is getting the praise he deserves as an actor. I finally got to see two other films of his (Session 9 - one that I am STILL trying to decipher - and Proof of Life) and the passion and drive of being a great actor is definitely firmly rooted in him. If you mean the chatter on CBS.com, I have been firmly rooted in attacking the non-believers of his ability to pull off scenes without even saying a word. And I totally don't get how anyone can think H becoming weak. Do these folks not see this poor guy is on the road to a breakdown himself with all the stuff he's been through? I know there is plenty of story behind Julia and Ron Saris - the writers certainly didn't allow for his body to be found just so the door is open for him to return - and I CAN'T WAIT for Saris to come back. Seeing the way Saris pushed all the right buttons to tick off H was PRICELESS! THAT is chemistry between two actors... you could feel the raging testosterone! LOVED IT!
I am so thoroughly delighted with what has been put forth and I hope the rest of the season continues to ramp up on the delivery they have initiated... it's awesome. And for DC, kudos kudos and more kudos! Everyone should look at him with different eyes and see beyond the shallowness of sunglasses, sideways stance, and tilted head - every thing this guy does speaks volumes.

Karen - re: H & Calleigh. I know you're right in what you say and I do agree -- but tucked deep down inside my heart I remember the two of them during the first few seasons and (sigh) still hold on to a little glimmer of hope. Oh well!
Sunshine68 - AMEN to your last paragraph!! Well said!!
BTW - There was no preview for next week's show 'cause it's a repeat - Stand Your Ground.

Ok, let the incredibly long mega post begin…
So, the episode opens in a rather sombre way, no loud rock music this week, no club anthem. The scene cuts between a darkened room (which, judging by the number of pins stuck in the tailor’s mannequin is occupied by some sort of voodoo dressmaker) and a high-end fashion boutique. Now we’re at least twenty seconds into the show and there haven’t been any half naked women yet…ah cue the cute girl in a changing room trying on a bikini and another in her underwear. She’s choosing clothes from the boutique’s line via a very high tech gizmo, some sort of cross between a computer and a mirror (now is it just me that would desperately like to own one of those or does anyone else share my desire for a high-tech mirror?!?!) Anyhow, our girl’s now trying on a nice little white dress but as she does the zip up the scene cuts to the main floor of the shop. There’s a massive explosion, shattered glass is flying everywhere along with the (now dead) body of our girl. Enter our dashing hero who reveals that the dead girl is 17year old Kim Walderman, a revelation that leads into this weeks one liner – which was an absolute gem – whoever wrote this line deserves a medal, it’s a cracker! M.E : Why target a fashion boutique? It seems so random. Horatio: On the contrary, this was by design. That’s why I love this show so much!
H and Eric are questioning the store owner Mr Serino, who points a suspicious finger at the owners of the store next door. But it can’t be as simple as that, this is Miami.
In the distance a woman’s voice gets louder, protesting her innocence – the voice sounds familiar and it makes sense when Horatio goes to investigate and finds Julia Winston being ejected from a bank for passing a bad check – she’s apparently a repeat offender and is in financial trouble. Julia is convinced that Leonard McBride, her financial advisor is stealing money from her. H promises to help, but somehow Julia seems…not her usual, self-assured self. Horatio appears in a restaurant to question McBride. Leonard explains that he hasn’t been stealing her money but that Julia was the one squandering her money, in fact she owes him a year’s pay and that working for free is getting real old.
The autopsy on Kim Walderman shows that the blast originated from her abdomen. There are copper wires poking out of the zip on the dress she was trying on. Ryan finds a watch battery hidden in the dress – which is enough to detonate a small amount of C4 explosive. By doing up the zipper she completed the circuit and set off the explosive load. She was wearing the bomb. An IT tech is working hard at resurrecting the intelligent mirror – it’s stored the last few minutes of video footage it recorded of the victim. Serino sees the girl trying on a dress and reveals that it isn’t one he sells in his store – all his clothes are animal friendly and the dress she was trying on was made from suede. Which means that someone put the dress in the store.
H is in the hummer calling Julia when he sees an altercation taking place at the side of the road outside Julia’s house. An altercation that involves…Kyle. H reminds Kyle that he can’t afford to be arrested again. Kyle doesn’t know where Julia is and he’s worried about her, she’s not acting normal.
Frank brings a handbag in as evidence, driving licence inside the bag prove it belonged to the victim. There’s about $5,000 inside, matches, broken security tags and a knife. It looks like Kim was a practiced shoplifter.
Next move is to go talk to the victim’s friend who’s just been released from hospital. Delko says he needs to see what’s under the girl’s shirt – now this may sound like it’s going a bit astray for poor old Delko, but trust me he’s working on a theory here. Eventually Amy (why are the little minx’s always called Amy? *rolls eyes*) lifts her shirt to reveal another top, with the price tag still attached – she’s another shoplifter. Delko thinks they were hired by someone, Amy insists they were just selling the clothes in college dorms.
Delko’s going over the cash from Kim’s bag. He’s taken the top and bottom notes and he’s looking to match prints. Amy said that they sold the clothes in dorms so they’d get bits of money at a time, but if Eric finds matching prints on the top and bottom notes then he’ll know that the money was handled as a stack. Dr Robert Langley, a plastic surgeon, is the owner of the matching set of prnts on the top and bottom notes. He’s never been arrested but he has been accused of sexual misconduct with a patient in the past, so what’s he doing giving a 17 year old a stack of cash? His story is that Kim came to him and wanted a breast enlargement. He refused because she was too young. She offered him the cash for the op. He refused.
Frank comes to tell Horatio that there’s been a fatal hit and run…at Julia’s address. Kyle’s missing. The vic turns out to be the guy that Kyle was fighting with earlier. He’s got a bottle of pills in his pocket – it’s bipolar medication for Julia Winston. Inside the house Julia’s crying, she’s clearly distressed and she keeps calling Horatio John (the undercover alias he used when he met her). Bryce Kerwin, the dead man in the driveway was stealing Julia’s medication, hit by Julia’s car. Despite the evidence Kyle tells Horatio that he wasn’t driving the car that killed Bryce he also says that if it turns out that his mother did this, then he wants Horatio to prove it was Kyle driving – he’s willing to take the wrap for his mother. (awww) Horatio tells him that’s not how it works.
Horatio is back in a lab coat, with a flashlight and looking distressed trying desperately to put someone else behind the wheel of that car. Horatio tells Eric that if he can’t find anything to exonerate Julia and Kyle then Kyle is gonna end up back in jail. Back in the early days of CSI:Miami it was Horatio telling Delko to go back over a car, that there has to be something – this time around it’s Delko helping Horatio along; a nice little circle of tutor becoming the student for a second. Delko finds a piece of crabshell on the accelerator. Now strangely enough Leonard McBride (the financial advisor) was eating crab when Horatio spoke to him in the restaurant. McBride admits that he stole the car as payment in kind for Julia not paying him and killed Bryce. “Lieutenant I am not a criminal.” “You are now Leonard.” He leaves with a warning for Horatio. Be careful of Julia, she’ll bring you down too.
Ryan has reassembled the bomb, unfortunately there’s no unique signature. Their bomb maker left something other than plastic explosive in the dress – he left a drop of his own blood in the seam. DNA says his name is Stan Carlysle who has priors for using explosives. Ryan and Delko pay him a visit. But he’s not home – they do find his room mate Barry and a host of bomb-making equipment in Stan’s room. There’s also a bag full of size 2 women’s clothing – all from Freatelli’s clothing store…which just happens to be right across the street from the bombed boutique. Ooooh.
The dress that contained the bomb also came from Feratelli’s – it was stolen by a woman with a baby stroller (pram). Delko works out that the stroller belonged to Amy; our friendly neighbourhood shoplifter. Kim was targeting specific clothes from high end stores. Eric wants to know who she was stealing for. Amy refuses to tell them, fearing that they might kill her for talking.
Ryan brings in Barry, the guy they met at Stan Carlysle’s apartment. He was claiming to be a roommate. It turns out that Barry and Stan were one and the same person. Turns out that Stan/Barry (wow that got real confusing for a while) got burned badly when he was practicing making bombs and was admitted to hospital with severe 1st degree burns. He needed his face rebuilding. Barry tells Ryan that he felt sorry for the girl that died but the guy that asked him to custom make a bomb had saved his life. The guy who wanted the bomb made was Stan’s doctor…now we’ve only met one doctor in this episode…the plastic surgeon Robert Langley. Calleigh confronts Langley with the evidence. It turns out that Langley was feeling the pinch with the current economic climate so he hired Kim and Amy to steal clothes for his daughter so he could keep up the appearance of affluence. Kim Walderman got greedy – she was no longer content with stealing clothes for him to keep up the appearance of a high earning lifestyle. She wanted a bigger payout and threatened to accuse him of sexual harassment. So he contracted Stan to make a bomb for him and to use it to kill Kim Walderman.
Horatio finds Julia sitting outside. He covers her shoulders to keep her warm from the breeze, kisses her head and sits beside her. Cue light caring music that suggests the beginning of something bigger.
-------------------------------------------------------
Now listen, I will admit (for the first time) that I kinda lost a little faith in the show a way back, I wasn’t so keen on some of the stuff last season in fact, although there were nice moments I haven’t thoroughly enjoyed it since season 3ish. I hate to admit it, and feel free to lambast me if you want but H just seemed wooden (and not in a good way) it was almost as if he was wheeled onto set, said a sarcastic line or fired a gun and then got wheeled off again, like a caricature of his former self – I worried that his heart wasn’t in it any more...please bear in mind this is just my opinion, one that I haven’t voiced before. But the dark cloud has passed me by and I’m glad I ultimately kept the faith. This episode – for me – was a return to the Horatio I know and love. He was just oozing emotion…oozing I tell you!! He was back to the science, and at the same time back to the emotion. And I LOVED it. I know a lot of you out there don’t like the idea of Julia and H getting involved, me, I’m not against it, actually I’m all for it. I think it’ll be interesting to see a strong female character that can stand up as an equal to Horatio, that’s why I liked Yelina before and why I like Julia now. Plus I think the young actor playing Kyle ‘played a blinder’ as we say round here. He was (again in my opinion) fabulous.
I’m genuinely excited by what this season promises to bring.
Ok, random babbling summary / opinion over.
Hype. *salutes*

Okay now that you've all killed me with walls of text.........Its my turn to kill you with one xD Alright, so We've gotten the idea of Yelena and him clear, the Julia thing still developing... but something is just.... I dont know.... Yes Julia is the mom of his kid BUT! I keep saying BUT! because if he ends up with her, she's just going to take him down....Not down physically but down mentally.... No offense to anyone with these next few words but, My grandfather is bipolar scitszophrenic... how that happened I dont know but he is, and him and his wife, (My grandmother) got divorced after the paranoia become so severe that he was threatening things a grandfather sould not be threatening.... He got help, and he's doing a little better, but still..... Julia...and Horatio... thier minds are so different, and they are in different places mentally that... just... throw me off.. and would probably throw H off because I understand H for who he is... we act exactly the same, its kind of funny really.... I see myself through Horatio... seriously and I know I wouldnt want Julia, even if I could fix her.. The thing about Horatio being weak.. I dont think its that he's becoming weak. The key word is he's becoming Complacient He's becoming complacient in his job, in his work, and its allowing him to slow down, and show this side of him that no one has seen. But I will say this for him. Complacency gets cops killed. And if your complacient in your job as well, you dont want to do it anymore. Uhm....someone said... that the Yelena thing would never work, because of the relationship him and her share, and when I saw that I was like "There in lies the rub my friends!" because to me, Yelena is more like a younger sister... than a girlfriend, or a wife... And then whoever said the thing about Calliegh and Horatio you hit the nail on the head because to be honest, I think Calliegh see's Horatio as a father, instead of a husband. Because she hasnt really had a father... Ya know? Alright I'm done rambling... I hope you like my wall of text

Nicely done, Hypergolic. I appreciate all the work you went through to capture the tone of this episode. Like you, I have called Horatio a caricature of himself. This happened when the storylines took on a comic book look and feel. It's like we are seeing the old "Batman and Robin" series without the "POWS!" The color schemes were there as well ---- yellow for Ryan and orchid for Eric. Super-Horatio was not there in this episode and I quite liked that.
And next week we have a rerun already. Bummer! I'll bet it is because Tuesday is election day and Obama is going to deliver a half hour speech sometime Monday evening.
