kk here it is fresh off the tips of my fingers. I have not reread this one before posting. But I knew you guys were having with drawals so enjoy
Chapter 13
When we got to the hospital we found another officer sitting at the door, a Mr. Brown. As we walked up he stood up and barred our way into the room. “Sorry, only family can go in, Sgt. Stetler’s orders.” He had put a hand up to stop us.
I went white with anger at this and turned to Dad. Before I could say a word Mother spoke. “You mean to tell me that you would stop his lawyer and the lady of his life from entering?” The officer looked at her. “Aren’t you a bit old for the Lieutenant?”
My father laughed as did my uncle, with tears forming in his eyes he started asking his questions. “Has Lt Caine been charged with anything and has he been read his rights?” To this the office replied. “No, sir.” My father smiled his biggest smile. “Your Sgt Stetler has overstepped his bounds. He can not have you stop people from seeing Lt. Caine. This will be one more item on a growing list of grievances that I will be filling in Lt. Caine’s behalf. Now, please step aside. As a matter of fact if Lt. Caine were to be released you could not stop him from leaving without charging him, so you better have your orders checked.”
We then walked into Horatio’s room. We found the day nurse taking his vitals so we waited until she left the room. As she past my Dad she gave him a big smile and said. “You the lawyer that’s going to tell those cops to get off my floor?” My dad just gave her a nod.
He then turned his attention to Horatio who was giving my father the once over and sizing him and my uncle up. You could tell that all three men were using their skills that had been honed by years in law enforcement. As I watched I could see a picture of a new rooster being introduced to the hen yard. All the other roosters were circling and making sure he measured up to what they felt was needed to be accepted in the group. “Well, it seems Mr. Caine that you have captured the attention of our Midget. Her recommendation of people carries a lot of weight in lot of places, especially with her family. By the way I am Franklin Langley; this is my wife Hazel Delinore Langley and my brother-in-law Creig Delinore. I understand that you may be in need of my law firm.” He pointed to my mother and my uncle as he introduced them, and as he finished he extended his hand to Horatio.
The first thing I noticed about him was that he had gotten someone to bring him some regular pajamas and robe. The second was there was a laptop by his bed. “Ryan Wolfe has been here this morning hasn’t he.” I bent over and kissed his cheek. He turned his head and looked at me and smiled, then back to my dad. “I think it is more like she has captured my attention. As to my need of your law firm it would be nice to put a little fire to the feet of a certain Sgt. Rick Stetler and sit back and watch him sweat just a little.” My hand rested lightly on his left arm and he had moved his right hand up to cover mine.
My Dad smiled his biggest Texas smile and retorted. “I just think we can give him a good Texas style Bar-B-Q at the opening tonight.” He looked at the laptop that sat beside Horatio and smiled. “Is that set up with a video/audio feed?”
“Yes, it is and Mr. Ryan Wolfe, one of my CSI team; will be feeding me the information from the party tonight. I might not be there in body but I will be there in spirit. And I have an audio feed back to Mr. Wolfe if I have any questions I want answered by Sgt. Stetler.” Horatio stated this then he looked at me. “I did ask the doctor if I could go this evening but he felt that it was not a wise move. He did say that he would see about letting me out of here tomorrow if I someone to stay with me for the next few days. I am not supposed to be using the leg very much for the next few days.”
My mother took one look at Horatio and then at her husband. “I can see he is just a stubborn as every other man in this family. He will be right back to his job as soon as he gets out the front doors of the hospital.”
I looked at my mother then at my dad and to her statement I added. “He hasn’t been that idol while he has been in here. He has been burning up the minutes on that cell phone talking with his team and his lab about every case that is on going there. Including the case that he is smack in the middle of.” Horatio tucked his chin and smiled.
My mother began to shake her head and laugh. Then she took my dads arm. “Just like another work absorbed person I know. Dee if this is the man of your heart be ready to spend time playing second to his work mistress.” She turned to Horatio and spoke softly to him. “If you find that she is the one for you take hold and never let go of the love she will give you because there will come a time when that love will sustain you when you work mistress will not.”
I turned to look at H and he turned to look at me we both had a bit of pink tinge to our face but as we looked at each other we seemed to shut the others in the room out and realized that maybe we had found that special person to stand with during the calm times and the stormy times of life. His hand tightened just a little and I bent over and kissed him on the cheek.
The discussion between the five of us continued for a little while longer when I informed my family that I had to get back to the shop. I gave my car keys to Dad and told him that I had on board navigation. “I will just get a cab to take me to the shop. Mom will you stop by my place and get my things. They’re in the bathroom? I just don’t think I will have time to go by and get dressed at the apt.” I kissed everyone good bye and left.
