OK OK - Here is the next chapter. I am working on some more so you may have to wait for the next installment.
Chapter 10
H was still visibly chuckling when I sat down. He reached up with his left hand and cupped my neck and pulled me down to him. I felt the tenders in his kiss and knew that what every else he was feeling it wasn’t that I had withheld anything. There just hadn’t been time for me to tell him everything. “Oh, H I hope I haven’t stepped on the wrong toes just now.”
His arm and moved down and was encircling my waist. “I know that you weren’t holding anything back from me. And don’t worry about Stetler. I have confidence in my team and the lab. These charges are not going to standup.” He gave a little pull and I leaned into his left shoulder and nuzzled his neck. “If the night nurse comes in we are going to be in trouble.” We both snickered at the thought but neither of us made a move. We both fell asleep sometime after that. But Horatio wouldn’t let me get off the bed. He told me I was therapeutic to him.
When I awoke it was about 10am and the sun was coming in between the blinds. I sat up and looked at Horatio. He was still asleep, but that would change if that sunlight hit his eyes as it had mine. I slipped off the bed and went to the curtains and rearranged them. When I turned around his eyes were open and I could tell that he was in need of a pain shot. “You want me to call the nurse?” He smiled and answered. “Already have.” He then held up the call button.
The day nurse came in with a syringe. “Mr. Caine you have a high tolerance to pain. I do believe this is your first request for a pain shot.” I had walked back over to the bed as she spoke. She turned and looked at me. “I wish I could look as fresh as you do Mrs. Caine. I mean being up here all night and your make up looks like you just put it on.”
I laughed and walked down my side of the bed as she walked down her side. When we met at the end I crooked my finger at her and she came close so I could whisper. “I’m not Mrs. Caine.” She took a step back and looked shocked. I crooked my finger again and she stepped back towards me. “I cheat on the make up. It’s called permanent make up. I had it put on years ago.” She took a step back and looked closely at my face. “Well, I never.” And she left shaking her head.
I pulled my cell phone out of my pocket and pushed auto dial. “Hi Dad.” I paused and listened as Dad told me he was in a hurry the prize mare was throwing her first colt and was having a hard time. “Dad, I have a problem.” There was a pause as my dad changed gears. “What type of problem?” I told him about meeting this great guy and what had happened in the last 24 hours. “So if this jerk Sgt. Stetler contacts you I just want to give you a heads up. Let me put you on speaker so Horatio can hear that.” I pushed a button on the phone. “Go ahead and repeat that Dad.”
“Hello Mr. Caine. What I was telling Midget was that being that he is IAD if he follows procedure he will contact the police here in Middleton. They won’t be much help to him. The Chief is my brother-in-law. The other side of Midget’s family are policeman. This side of her family is lawyers. It’s no wonder that she found a man that was connected to law enforcement. We thought Midget had broken out of the mold when she went to medical school at Oklahoma University, where she graduated valedictorian. Then she became a police psychologist. Honey you need to tell him your whole story not just the part about the pottery shop and studio burning down. He will understand if he cares for you. If doesn’t care for you it won’t matter if he understands or not. Now that I have a heads up I will give a call to your Uncle Creig, Chief of police here in Middleton; and then I am going to go take care of that mare.” I heard the connection break.
“Dad doesn’t like to end a phone conversation with goodbyes. Like someone else I know.” I was again setting on the bed with Horatio’s arm across my lap. He smiled at me and swatted my backside.
Then pointing a finger at the end of my nose he reprimanded me. “A police psychologist, no wonder you know how to listen and keep things quite. It’s not nice to keep secrets.” Then he pulled me into a kiss. “Where did you work?”
I had sat back up and was playing finger lacing with his hand. “I worked for the city of Amarillo, Texas. My shop/studio was a project to help the hearing impaired there copy with life. My job with the police department wasn’t a full time thing. Throwing clay had always been one of my hobbies and I found a way to help others with both my medical background and use a hobby I liked. One night one of the students had a lap of judgment and set my place on fire. There was a shop owner and his wife and family that lived above a market two doors down from my shop/studio. They didn’t make it out.” I hadn’t looked at Horatio while I told him about my nights of terror that followed the fire. “When the insurance check came I had told my family I needed a change. I have a trust so I don’t have to worry about paying the rent. So I moved to Miami and set up a shop. OH no! The opening is tomorrow. You have to get well and I have to go finish putting things in place at the shop.”
He sat up and pulled me into his embrace. “I’m here I’ll always be here for you.” I could hear his quite voice in my ear and fill his breath against my neck. “You will always be here for me?” I looked into his face and his smile said yes.

Ok here is the latest installment. your almost up with me.
Chapter 11
I left the hospital shortly after Calleigh returned. I told her that I had to go get the shop ready for opening. “I have another long night ahead of me. I haven’t gotten all my pieces out of their boxes. I have several artist pieces that I am showcasing. You know that saying ‘so much too do and so little time to do it in’ that’s me tonight. Can you have some of the team stay with him I cannot postpone this. It is a black tie affair and it is my debut into the Miami art world.”
Calleigh smiled and looked over at Horatio who had nodded off after the last shot the nurse had given him. “It’s just as well that he isn’t able to go. He hates black tie affairs. Though he does cut a page out of fashion when he puts on a tucks.” I thanked her and ran out the door.
I got to the shop and found 3 CSI and 1 MDPD detective waiting for me. “We’re here to help you get those boxes unloaded.” Eric said as I looked at them with my mouth open and all sorts of questions. “I am so glad for the help, I am so behind. Thank you one and all.” I unlocked the door and went to the back to turn off the alarm.
For the next five hours we worked steadily to set all the art items in their places. At the end of that time all the creates had been opened and the contents put on display. There were still some boxes to be opened but they were slated for my studio. I looked around it was almost 7pm. “Dinner is on me. I will order from Balans it’s just down the street and the food isn’t bad. They will deliver for a small fee and I do need to make a call to the caterer to be sure that they are going to be here in the morning to start setting up in the studio area.” I produced a menu for everyone to choose from
The food came and everyone enjoyed sharing their dinner picks. The mood that settled around us was a good one and after the last 48 hours we all needed to have a lighter mood. As we began to pick up the food containers I turned to everyone. “If any of you would like to come tomorrow night I will give you a pass for the door as well as one for a date. Most of the artist will be on hand and some of them are coming from as far away as the state of Washington. Some are Native American others are from the north. You don’t have to buy anything just come and enjoy yourselves.”
Eric and Ryan looked at each other then at Frank and smiled. Eric spoke up. “If Frank is going to show up in a tucks I will go rent one and come just to see him.” Frank just gave a gruff noise then said. “You know us Texans got to stick together Dee, so count me in. Besides, if you don’t mind I will stand in for Horatio for you.” I smiled at Frank. “That’s very kind of you. You do realize that the mayor and the chief of police have RSVPd and will be coming with their entourage?”
Everyone looked at each and then back at me and Frank spoke up. “You do know that part of that entourage will include a certain IAD Sgt.?” He then got a wicked grin as did all the others. “We all want tickets and Calleigh and Alexx will want to come.”
I clapped my hands together and brought them up to my mouth and began to laugh. Frank looked around and asked me. “Can we be let in on the joke?”
I held up my hand as I tried to get a deep breath. “Oh is Sgt Stetler in for one h--l of an evening. My entire family is flying in on the corporate jet for the event and to show support for me.” Everyone stated to laugh at the fact that the joke would be on one IAD Sgt.
I walked to the back of the shop as the others went to the front and I turned off the lights and turned on the alarm. Then we all went out the door. Ryan turned to me and said. “Can I drop you back at the hospital? I know that’s where you want to go.” I smiled at him and said thanks that would be nice. “I would like the company on the way to the hospital.”
We walked to his CSI hummer that sat at the curb and he opened the passenger door and I climbed in. He went around to the driver’s door and got in. As we drove to the hospital he told me how he hadn’t been with the team but about a year. How he had come in after Tim Speedle had been shot in the line of duty. That he was OCD and he thought that was one of the reasons that Horatio had given him the job. He went on to tell me about his childhood and the fact he was an only child seemed to make his parents more protective of him. When we got to the hospital he looked over at me. “I think H picked the right lady. You’re as easy to talk to as H.”
We went into the hospital and up to the 7th floor. As we walked to Horatio’s room we noticed an officer sitting in a chair outside his door. “What’s this?” Ryan demanded as he walked up.
The officer shrugged and said. “Sgt Stetler thinks he has a case of wrongful death against the LT.”
I looked at the officers name tag and made a mental note. What I said to was to Ryan. “Get this officers badge number and full name.” To the officer I asked. “Have there been any other officers assigned to this detail?”
“No ma’am. But, my shift changes at midnight. Do you want that officer’s name and badge number?” I said yes and that any officer on duty at this door was to leave his name and badge number with the Lt. Then I added. “Officer Lee this is to cover your backs not to get you in trouble. When my dad and uncles get here Sgt Stetler may find we Texans love a good open pit Bar-B-Q.”
I walked into the room and found Horatio was sitting up and eating food not liquid. He finished chewing the bite he had in his mouth and looked at me and grinned. “Even hospital food taste good after a 48 hour fast.” We all laughed then Horatio turned serious. “Notice my door keeper?” He forked in another bite of food.
“Yes, we did. Daddy and my Uncle’s are going to be here tomorrow for the opening. I’m planning an open pit Bar-B-Q. I wish you could be there.” I had covered the space between the door and his bedside. I bent over and kissed his cheek and whispered in his ear. “I promise when you get out of here I will make you a dinner that you will always remember.” He turned his head and smiled then to Ryan he said. “Are you planning on going to the opening?”
Ryan laughed and answered his boss. “Not just me but your entire team will be there to watch the roast. Just wish you could be there too. I am going to get back to the lab and check on something with that missing gun. I just feel that Sgt. Stetler hasn’t done his best to find the missing gun or prove that the woman fired at Horatio.” He said his goodbyes and left.
Horatio put his fork down and I could tell that he was thinking. I looked around the room and realized that his IV and all his tubes were gone then I looked at Horatio. I reached over and took his hand. He pulled me closer to his bed side. Then he took my hand and kissed it then smiled at me. “I wish I could be there too.
I nestled down against his left side and we both quickly fell into a light sleep.

this is the last finished chapter. So it may take a day or two after this chapter before another one gets posted.
Chapter 12
It was early when I began to wake up. Horatio was already awake and looking at me when I opened my eyes. “How long was I asleep?” He laughed and kissed me lightly on the forehead. “Not very long, about five hours. You have a long day ahead of you and I wanted you to get as much rest as possible.”
I pulled back from him. “You wanted me to get rest. I’m not the one that spent over five hours in surgery to remove a bullet. If anyone should be getting rest it should be a certain CSI lieutenant that I know.” I sat completely up and looked down at my blouse. The first three buttons were undone. I looked back at Horatio with, did you do this look; and he just smiled. “I didn’t do it, but I wasn’t going to fix it either.” He raised and lowered his auburn eyebrows. “You were just enjoying the view?” He smiled showing his teeth and nodded.
I buttoned up the third button and then I bent over and whispered in his ear. “We are going to have to do something about this when you get out of the hospital.” He looked at me with those lovely blue eyes. “Just what did you have in mind?” It was my turn to smile, duck my head and avoid the question. I got up and looked at the clock. It read 6am. “Oh, my day is going to be long. I have to meet my family at 10am and get them to their hotel. Then back to the show room to get the caterer started at 11am. I know my Mom and Dad are going to want to come and meet you. Is that alright if we drop by?” He agreed with that and we gave each other a parting kiss.
I went to my place and found the evening gown I had brought with me from Texas hanging in the closet where I had put it after I got it back from the cleaners a few days before. It was made of a deep green taffeta gathered skirt with a white bodice top and a large white sash band that tied into a large bow at the back. I hung it in the bathroom and then got my shoes and jewelry ready to put on. I looked at grandma’s emerald earrings matching necklace and ring. They sparkled in the sun light. I had always told grandma that I loved the green because it reflected my eye color. I looked at them and images of her flashed in my mind and a smile crossed my face as remembered our last day together.
We were sitting in the porch swing. She had her jewelry box on her lap she turned to me and said. “My time here is almost up and I am going on to meet the Lord. . .” she paused as she got her breath. “I have had a full life. Your father and his brothers know all my last wishes.” Another pause for breath, “These are for you.” She then handed me the box. “Your grandfather gave me these on our wedding day. I want you to have them and think of me when you wear them.” I had taken the box and hugged it close to me. I could never remember a family gathering that she didn’t wear them; I would from that time after fallow her tradition.
The day for me was filled with calls preparing for the opening and meeting my parents. Horatio had his day filled as well with calls to each of his team members. Alexx confirmed during the autopsy of the woman that she had GR trace on her confirming she had fired a gun recently. Calleigh and Eric had went to the site of the accident and found the grove that the last shot of the woman had taken at Horatio following the trajectory they had found the spent bullet. Boa Vista was running some trace on her clothing. Wolfe was working with Cooper setting up a visual/audio feed for Horatio. If they got it ready Horatio would be able to see and hear everything that Ryan did.
As I stood in the hanger watching the family jet roll in I wondered how my family was going to take to Horatio. The door opened and the stairs were extended there at the top stood my Dad. I smiled and waved. He took the stairs quickly and had picked me up in one of his bear hugs. “Oh, Midget how I have missed you, of course your mother will say she missed you more.” With that he sat me down on the ground and turned so that I could give my mother a hug and a kiss hello. “Now, when do we meet this young man that you seem to have picked up?” She asked.
I took a step back and replied. “First let me get you all to the hotel and then we will see about taking you to meet Horatio.” I then heard my brothers and uncles and all their wives coming up behind mother. “I can’t take all of you to meet him. He is still in the hospital. He was in surgery for over five hours just a little over 24 hours ago. I don’t think anyone can stand the entire family descending on them after what he has just been through. I will take you, Dad and Uncle Creig. Everyone will have a chance to meet him later, but not all at once.” I looked at everyone. “I have a mini-bus to take us to the hotel where you can all get ready for this evening. You will be transported down to the shop/studio around 5pm. So you have about seven hours to do whatever you want.”
We unloaded their luggage into the mini-bus and loaded everyone except Mom, Dad and Uncle Creig into the buses. The four of us went and got into my Red Lexus GS. It had a hybrid engine in it; I was trying to do my part for the environment when I bought it. I drove us to the hospital and I don’t think my Mom stopped asking questions about H the entire drive. I thought to myself as we got out of the car ‘Poor H, to be in the hospital and then to have to put up with my family’s questions.’
I did manage to get a question in to Dad and Uncle Creig as to weather a certain IAD Sgt had contacted them. They informed me that he had contacted them the same day that I had called Dad. Uncle Creig snorted. “He didn’t like it much when I told him about your work history. He really didn’t seem to like it when I told him about your accommodations.”
