Not sure if this is the proper place to discuss this. If not I appologize for the boo boo.
Anyway I was very excited to find novels written about CSI: Miami. The first book I am reading is called Florida Gateway and it begins in Vegas with their crew. This book caught my attention right away and I am really enjoying it. This is how the author Max Allen Collins describes Horatio when the charactor is first introduced.
"Pastey white, Horatio Caine never seemed to tan, no matter how much time he spent in the Flordia sun. The upside was he never got white circles around his eyes or little lines around his temples from his ever present shades, either. His red hair and freckles and that fairer-than-fair flesh bespoke an Irish heritage, and what appeared to be a constant scowl gave him the appearence of a man forever pissed off. But Caine's CSI team knew the serious expression onlt bespoke a natural intensity - he wasn't ittitated just focused on the work."
To me this described him real well when he comes on to the crime sceen. I remember when I first watched this show I thought the same things. I ended up buying the three copies I found but will be looking for more books. Oh...I am very happy to of found these.

I think there is only four of them that have been released so far. The most recent "Riptide" was just released this past Tuesday. The next one is due out at the end of November.

Hey, thanks! I'd been wondering when the new one was coming out... I knew it was sometime soon. I'll keep my eyes open.

Well, I just finished reading 'Riptide'...wow! I love the CSI novels. ;D
This one isn't officially released here in the UK until tomorrow (7th August), but Amazon.co.uk are great and have sent me my copy a couple of days early (I guess because the release date fell on a Monday and they wanted to make sure the copies arrived on or just before the release date).
I've gotta say that it gives you a bit of an insight into a couple of the characters' inner thoughts (especially Ryan's). I haven't yet got to like Ryan's character as much as other characters (We're only just starting to watch season 4 here in the UK, and in season 3 I don't think Ryan came off too well, what with taking credit for Delko's work etc) but with reading this book I started to like him a whole lot more!
And it has a good storyline too, with a fair few twists along the way. Hooray...roll on November and the next book!
Thought I'd give you a taster (one that won't spoil the storyline)
"So Ryan", Calleigh said. "You have a good weekend?" "Not bad," Wolfe said, not looking up. He adjusted the focus on the microspectrophotometer. "Do anything special?" Calleigh was on hold, trying to reach a scuba shop in Coconut Grove. "Not really, no" he murmered. "Ah. I went out, caught a movie - that new Will Smith one?" "Uh-huh." "Had to leave halfway through though. My head caught on fire." "That's nice..." "But the men in the UFO put it out. With their ice-cream ray." "What flavour?" He asked absently. "Pistachio?" "Good, good," he muttered. "Pistachio has excellent fire-retardent qualities." "Okay," she sighed. "So you're paying attention. You could at least try to sound interested." (Page 39-40)

I found one too while doing groceries. I think it is Florida Gateway because it starts in Vegas. It's a Dutch title here which looks no close to the original title.

Oh I was so HAPPY to of found these books. I finally got Riptide the last one I did not have before I left for vacation. While staying with Lupe's Tia and Tio in Juarez I actually would finish a book a day. I read all 4 books within 5 to 6 days. They were like candy. I LOVED THEM and highly recommend them. Both authors wrote the charactors within cannon and I was happy with that. Very few screw ups. I only have a week and half before I start the fall semester and I know I will not have time to read for pleasure then. By the time the fifth book comes out in November I will have to probably wait until holiday vacation between semester until I can enjoy it and watch my season 4 DVD's. Poor me!

I am sorely tempted to get the CSI and CSI new york ones too. Would that be a mistake?

Hiya Rebecca I've read the CSI and CSI NY books too (one benefit of working in a library...access to all the books you could ever want!) They're all really good. The writers have stayed true to the characters as you see them on screen, which impressed me.
If you watch the tv shows I'd say you'll enjoy the books too, they all have really good storylines, with lots of twists in the plots. Just like the Miami books I couldn't put the others down, reading a book a day.
Just be careful if you're ordering online, there are quite a few graphic novels (the comic-strip type books) and they're not always obviously advertised. Make sure it's the novels that you're buying.

They have graphic novels of CSI:Miami? I could get into buying those too. Oh my...I really must get a grip on the CSI:M stuff. Oh hell, I get so little pleasure as it is. Do tell me that I can get graphic novels of CSI:M.

Yep, there are indeed graphic novels of CSI:Miami, although I have to say that in the one I read, Horatio looked slightly monkey-esque! bizarre. I think the stories they've published in graphic novel format are 'Smoking Gun' 'Thou Shalt Not' and 'Blood/Money'. These are available together in one book, just called CSI:Miami. Any of the CSI:Miami books that lists Kris Oprisko or Jeff Mariotte as authors tend to be graphic novels. Hope this helps! Amy

I am so happy! I have found some books, too. Two of them are in German. One is in English (Cult following) and I have a dictionary besides me. Unfortunately I have hard time for reading. But I am doing my best by reading it. Greets Arianna

I am reading Cult Following at the moment & have Florida Getaway to read next. Can't wait as it sounds a bit like the Cross Jurisdictions episode so will be interesting to read an author's take on Horatio & Catherine's relationship as they had so much chemistry in Cross Jurisdictions so hopefully that is captured in the book too.

I got that graphic novel. It was TWENTY BUCKS!. Oh my.....I forked it out anyway. I guess I am not one for reading comic books. They just don't have enough detail for my liking. I like the novels much better and I like when the authers get into detail about things and go into the charactors personalities. I love the books. I can't wait until Nov comes as I will be getting that new one coming out. It has a dead Santa on the cover. WEIRD!

I've just realised that I've read my CSI Miami books in the wrong order. I read Cult Following first when I should have read Florida Getaway first as Yelina isn't in Florida Getaway but she's in Cult Following & Speed is still alive in Florida Getaway but Ryan is in Cult Following. The only thing i don't like about Florida Getaway is that the author keeps referring to Horatio as 'Caine'. Caine is his last name not his first name so they should call him Horatio as it is his first name.
