Well, besides my devoted readers both teams know whom to chase after. And they are also pretty sure that the killer went back to Miami and can be picked up at any moment they like. I guess it will be the job of Ryan and Natalia to keep an eye on him, because Horatio wants to be the one to hook up this nerd as soon as he's back from New York. So, let's spend a nice evening when things get sorted out a bit further and ... well, do you already know the name of the sniper? ;D
Chapter 44
When Mac entered ‘Maurice’, a little pub somewhere between Midtown and Uptown Manhattan, Stella, Danny, Eric, Lindsay and Sheldon had already occupied one of the best tables with enough space for three more guests.
“I guess I’m the last one you’re waiting for,” Mac said sibylline.
“What about Calleigh and Horatio?” Stella asked. She seemed to have arrived only shortly before Mac.
“We wanted to take Horatio with us, but he said he had to do some paper-work and refused to join us,” Danny explained.
“I’ve met Calleigh at the lab, just before she wanted to go. When I told her, that Horatio would be still at the hotel, she wanted to look after him first.” That was only half of the truth, but Mac left it that way.
“It’s always great to close a case, isn’t it?” Sheldon asked.
“Well, if the case is closed for you, then it’s O.K., but for us we gonna have to do some extra-work, though,” Eric grinned his shark-like smile and thought about Natalia and Ryan who would be still preparing everything for the next steps.
“You aren’t afraid, that your target would commit the next attack while you’re sitting here with us?” Lindsay asked.
If it could ever be possible, the shark-like grin of Eric went wider by the second and was followed by an easy laughter everybody at the table loved to join in. Then Eric explained:
“Our friend will have something to do within the next days which will nail him to his seat in the meantime. And he’s getting observed 24/7, so we will keep him away from his sniper-business without any problems. – I mean, not more problems than we usually would have.”
“I guess the last data we gonna need to frame him are already generated by AT & T. God bless the cell-phone!” Danny said enthusiastically and raised his glass.
“Not to forget about the good old finger-prints Natalia and Ryan had worked on,” Stella added, following Danny’s example and raised her glass, too.
“It’s so sad not having Calleigh and Horatio around, too,” Sheldon pointed out. “Now they are missing the re-union-toast.” He grabbed the bottle of Lager which was standing right in front of him and raised it as well.
“What’s that?” Lindsay asked.
Mac filled his glass with another beer and said: “The re-union of the CSI-teams of Miami and New York! Until today they are working due to the old rules of musketeers: one for all…”
“… and all for one,” the rest of the group joined into a choir.
His desk was loaded with paper-work up to the roof-top. That was not the way he had expected he would be welcomed back in Miami. He sighed and flipped through some files and more or less huge folders.
‘Are they kidding?!’
A traveling-cost-bill had been filled out wrong and now he had to search for the old documents to make sure that he did not need to pay back the ridiculous sum of 28 US$ and 6 cent.
He sighed again and started with the folders carrying names like “urgent”, “only of internal use” and “feedback urgently needed”. In the meantime the daily business would not stop, though, so he was glad that his prey would not attend before one of the next days and there’s still this useful idiot he could try to place on his prey’s trace again.
‘Just wait and see,’ he giggled silently. ‘Just wait and see.’
