Some of us saw the (small version of the) cover for this article a while back, but I don't think anyone got the chance to read it. Well, while doing a little digging, I found an online version of the magazine. Here's the cover. Now, if you click on this link, it will take you to the magazine. Click on the Article title (A Whole New Lexicon) and it will take you straight to the article. At the top of the page, you will see the options to go to the next page, go back a page, etc, OR you can click in the bottom right hand corner to flip the page. It's a very nice, very complimentary, very exciting, and very encouraging article about David's new company. www.nxtbook.com/nxtbooks/streamingmedia/0608/#/0em

This is very interesting - thanks for posting that link Em. I read the run down on Lexicon before and found a lot of what was being talked about a little gobbledegook-ish, this article clears some things up for me and I'm excited about the prospects. If Lexicon can do just a small part of what it's promising here it'll be fantastic! Streaming two way digital editing of high-def content over a 1Mb connection (seriously? 1Mb?) if you had enough RAM to power high speed data processing, you'd be laughing! And negating the formatting on video streams via slingbox? Genius! That would open up a world of video on hardware that currently doesn't have the capabilities! (they talk about flash and windows media player - it's basically like trying to open up a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet in Microsoft Word - all the data turns to lines of random symbols rather than legible text due to how the programme coding runs) And they're right - introducing formats was only ever a way of monolpolising the market, which annoys me.
A lot of what this company will be based in will depend on how internet media develops in the coming years...but heck, Lexicon may be the company that's pushing the boundaries of how online media develops. I'm not sure if the TV stations will give up rights to air shows that easily. CBS produces CSI:Miami, and then sells it to stations around the world (for a lot of money!) would CBS really be willing to lose some of that revenue by making each episode instantly available to anyone in the world? Even if it were to be some sort of pay per view service it would surely mean some sort of drop in revenue. For everyone on this board something like this would be amazing because it would solve the problem of say me here in the UK, where channel 5 is still part way through season 6 whereas in the US 7.05 has already aired. Sorry - I'm starting to splurge everything I'm thinking onto the screen via the keyboard at warp speed. I've let my inner geek run free for long enough...so I'll stop rambling now.

I thought this was a very revealing article as regards to Mr. Caruso's future. I do not think he sees his future as an actor anymore but rather as an inventor of a new way of thinking about visual entertainment. If he succeeds in achieving a patent for this idea, Lexicon will become his passion. He is in the right place to realize his dreams if CBS powerheads are at least listening to him.
This is why "Miami" has taken on that unusual format: scenes can be snipped from here and there and inserted wherever the subscriber wants. If DC sees his face as a sellable commodity, he will continue to perform on TV, but once the public becomes bored with his persona (perish the thought!), he will turn to other things. The viewer will become the producer of how he wants the story to develop. There will be footage of scenes available (out-takes, perhaps?) that do not make it into the regular TV show.
Hypergolic seems to have grasped the significance of how it will impact technology, I am only thinking that Caruso's creative juices are flowing in other directions, and Lexicon will become his legacy to his children. If this works, DC can retire to an island paradise, visiting his money stashed in banks all over the world.
Monitization? Is that a word? Perhaps David is speaking in "Carusoese" (If he can make up words, so can I!)

Lol Karen! Yes, he does at times speak in "Caruso-ese"! (I love that, "Caruso-ese" clever!) "Monitization" "specify" in a different context, "handsomer" . I felt at the very beginning of Lexicon that David Caruso has in mind his future and retirement, and a legacy for his family as you say. He will know well enough that TV series are not eternal (ouch for me to think it) and that it relies on marketability of a product which always is definitive. Also that at this stage of life people often do reset their jaws and shift in their seat to consider their future and how they might utilize their skills and knowledge to suit their lifestyle productively. Such thinking augers well for the success of the company and David Caruso.

Hey Karen! The word "monetization" appears on an advert on page 6-7 in the same mag. Mustn't be Caruso-ese at all. Unless he invented the word and it has taken off around the industry. "The next generation video monetization platform from...." Wikipaedia and ask.com give a basic definition (establishing something (e.g. gold or silver) as the legal tender of a country) The term obviously has been applied to internet video, advertizing and internet technology as a means of interactive user-choice platforms (and thus making money). I can see I will need to borrow someone's kids to navigate this new technology.
