UPDATE! ================
Chapter Four: Underlying Diversity
It was two days after Horatio had received the phone-call, telling him to kill his only family. Horatio in the days that followed, he'd realized that they where his only family. Horatio had no blood relatives left. Except Eric - who, was a CSI so that didnt count. Because he wasnt blood. All of the people whom you would call blood, are, and always will be dead.
He was standing on the roof of the Crime Lab. Sometimes he wondered how killers ended up with his cell-phone number. The air was cool, as if a storm was brewing. He knew there was one much more powerful than anything mother nature could dish out, on its way. He shifted his weight lightly, and started for the stairs.. something caught his eye. It was the reflection of a sniper rifle's scope that he'd seen in that split second. What was it aiming at? he wondered as he now realized that he was going to have to find cover. Horatio's body shifted and he pivoted - and he landed on his stomach. The bullet, he realized as he heard it, went right over his head. So that confirmed his suspicion. Someone was aiming for him. That would probably be the only shot they got out, because now all of the cops in the building would be rushing out... he thought. ---
Horatio shot awake in his bed, and stirred, another nightmare. He looked around in the darkness. No one was there. But his hackles where up, and he knew something wasnt right. Someone was in his house. He whipped out his pistol that was beside his bed in the locker. Stood upright, and started walking through his house. Checked the bedroom first... no one. Checked the bathroom, no one. ----
Ryan Wolfe had gotten scared with the idea that someone had told Horatio to kill him. And he lay awake watching it over and over in his head, and then realized that he needed to find his way into Horatio's house. To make sure he wasnt planning on doing it. About two hours later, he'd fallen asleep on the couch. -----
Horatio walked out into his living room, he saw a form laying on the couch but the only light he had was from the moon. He thingyed his pistol, waiting for a reaction. "Dont.. Move." he said.
Ryan shot up, and almost screamed like a little school girl. "Ahh! H, its me its me!" he yelled instead.
Horatio stared blankly in his direction. "Mister Wolfe?" he said it quiet... almost as if he talked any louder he'd disturb someone.
Ryan looked at him, afraid to move. "I.. I got scared... and...." he looked away ashamed.
Horatio sighed, and pulled his pistol down. "Its alright Mr. Wolfe.. I wont charge you with breaking and entering." Horatio, at that moment, realized what kind of relationship he and Ryan had. Ryan saw him as a father, someone he could respect, and someone he could love. And look up to. And that made Horatio feel warm.
Ryan laughed nervously. "I uhm... Sorry.. I should have called, but you where alseep... and I didnt want to scare you.."
Horatio looked at him.. "Scare me... Horatio... Caine?" he laughed hard, and from his stomach. He'd not laughed that hard in a very long time.
Ryan just looked away. Still feeling ashamed. "Can I...stay here?" he asked.. and then put his hands up.. "I... I dont want to go home, in case.. that killer has something in or around my house.." his voice got a little more desperate. "Like... a.. bomb..?"
Horatio saw the look in his eyes, the pure, primal fear, and smiled lightly. "Sure - Mr. Wolfe, you can stay here - You do know, there is a guest bedroom."
Ryan just blinked. "You think I'd go through your house?"
Horatio smirked. "Well, the couch is a bit uncomfortable.. for sleeping." --- An hour later, Horatio had showed Ryan the guest bedroom and closed the door behind him, that thought about family had come back to his mind. Kyle - He'd let him die too.
He shifted as he stood, and literally, fell into his bed, not wanting to get back up. Now that there where two cops in the house, it felt kind of good. Saftey in numbers, they'd been taught in the academy. And now they where going to have to live by it. Horatio had kind of expected one of his CSI's to end up at his place.. he wasnt sure who. But having Ryan here for a while seemed like it would be nice. They could talk out Cases while he was around, and bounce off ideas with one another. ------------
Ryan sighed as he lay awake, on his back. He wasnt getting any sleep tonight, he had been paranoid this whole time that someone would try to kill Horatio. Maybe he was here out of fear, maybe it was just he wanted to protect him. Whatever it was, He wasnt, going anywhere.
