Now that Season 7 has been put to bed, I am already wondering what is in the mix for Horatio and crew for Season 8. We all seemed to enjoy this last season and it has certainly opened the door for a lot of speculation: Will Calleigh and Eric continue to be an item? Will there be a new ME or will Alexx return? Will we learn more about the private lives of Frank or Natalia? Is Ryan finally developing into a dedicated investigator? And what about Horatio/ Julia/Kyle/Yelina? That's a conundrum, isn't it? Do you want to see Horatio enter into a darker personality or do you want to see him get in touch with his compassionate side? There are many things to consider and I have barely scratched the surface here, so please speak up. What are your desires as far as Season 8 of "Miami" is concerned? I'll open it to you now and save my own thoughts for later. Hope you find this fun.

I hope they won't seperate Eric and Calleigh already. I think H and Kyle should have a real father-son-relation. As far as I've seen S7 and read the reviews of the epi's we haven't seen yet, that's someting I miss. I don't think I would miss Julia if she wouldn't return, but I guess she will. But for me it would be enough if they only show her every now and than when Kyle is visiting her........Would love to see Yelina back though. And Dr. Alexx of course, but I'm afraid that also is wishful thinking. Seeing more of the private lives of the characters would be nice, but only if it's relevant to the storyline. H showing his darkes side is OK with me, but only if we get to see his compassionate side as well. Sandra

All in all I do have to second most of the things Sanne had already said. To work out the father-son-relationship would be great to see. And (maybe wishful thinking) I won't get mad about giving Horatio the really compassionate side back and maybe (only my humble opinion) they let Horatio catch up working out an relationship with Yelina? Hmmmm, the darker side of Horatio....hmmmm... it already appeared from now and then. Since the death of Marisol he had shown this dark side for several times (taking revenge in Rio, the shoot-out when he went to Rio for the second time, the rumble with the pedophiles, the shooting in the final ep of s7). I guess there's no way to become that much darker than he is since the recent eps. As usual: only my humble opinion P.S. Oh, I forgot: the return of Alexx would be really appreciated!

Well, here's my two cent's worth, for what it's worth.
During the behind the scenes for the finale, DC said something about going back to S1. Maybe that means that Horatio will be more involved with the team, like he was back then.
He definitely needs to work more on his relationship with Kyle, and we definitely need to see him working more with the team, to be involved with the team, like he used to be. He had been getting darker since Marisol's death, rightfully so. But now, hopefully he has seen what can happen when the darkness takes over, and he (and the writers) will be aware of it. His compassionate side is there, he just hasn't had much of a chance to show it. Hopefully the writers will be able to balance him out. The darkness isn't necessarily a good thing, but used in the right circumstances, it can help, in certain situations. Also, Horatio has never been one to openly display his emotions, even in S1, but his compassion, which is one of the things we love most about him, needs to come out again.
I have very mixed emotions about Julia. Having lived with someone who had a text book definition case of Paranoid-Schizophrenia, I can tell you, it's not something that you can wrap up like a nice little package. Hopefully they will give us a little bit of a peek into her healing processes, and those of her family.
I'd also like to see Alexx come back, but I'm not sure that's going to happen. I don't know what's going to happen as far as Dr Price was concerned, but they made it look pretty bottom line when the officers lead her away in handcuffs.
Whatever happens next season, I think it's going to be very interesting.
My two cents worth, for what it's worth.

My two cents: I know this has been said before...but I wish to see Madison and Ray Jr again! ;D And I would like.... - To know about Frank and Valera a little more. - To see Horatio's place... - A new ME, maybe a male - Horatio with Kyle as a real family - Horatio having a real and happy relationship with a strong lady - Horatio on a crossover in Las Vegas @karen, thanks for this thread! I'm with Gonsy on seeing Madison and Ray Jr again; as well as, actually seeing H's home/condo/apt...what ever it is. It would be nice to see Alex come back as the ME as she and Horatio had a very good friendship/working relationship. More of H working with the CSI's and continue working in the lab of course. A great love/relationship would be wonderful especially if it was with Yelina or someone else that was just as sophisticated and/or mature. Please just don't let us see another Marisol type story line. The writers rushed that death line way to fast as well as the relationship. They let us have a taste of H in a relationship and just yanked it away from us. How rude! I'm hoping they don't kill off Eric as he is possibly shot and missing right now. All we need is another "Lost Son" as a season opener. H doesn't need more sadness in his life. Hmm....most of all...I hope they keep up the good work. S7 was really good. Marianne

Mmmm.......I will have a go at this but it is difficult as we have not even begun to see season 7 let alone speculate on Season 8 with this big disadvantage. David Caruso in that recent video did suggest going back to season 1 days which Marianne has pointed out. I would love this if it means we have the quick moving and the sharper authoritative Horatio back. Although I don't see that they can completely backtrack......think we still need to see some of his darker side......this after all arises from his compassion for victims in the first place. Yes, it would be nice also to see some more of the old type team spirit but how are they going to work that one out if all what is being said about David & Emily not getting on so well these days is true. So at the moment I am not sure of greater team work even being a possibility. I am afraid I did not take to Julia even in season 6.......so unless I change my mind when I see season 7.....then in season 8 I would like to see her disappear. Apologies to those that like this character. Not sure about Kyle at the moment either......I guess I would like to see Horatio in a nice father/son realtionship but with Julia out of the way. From what I read the new ME has not been that popular and whilst I would love Alexx to come back she seemed pretty sure about leaving the cast so I do not see this as being something that is likely to happen. I also think that she made that role so much her own that no female will be up to replacing her. So, if she cannot return then I think we should now be looking at having a male in that role who could perhaps become Calleighs love interest I do not want to see the disappearance of Eric but I would be happy to see his relationship with Calleigh come to an end. Don't like this relationship. Doesn't work for me. Seeing more of their private lives would be OK but limited to very small doses.....I would not want this to change from a crime series to a soap opera. I am another one of those that would like to see the return of Madison & Ray. As Yelina has returned more often than expected I see no reason why Ray cannot make the odd appearance.....not too much though. I would much prefer the return of Madison......could really see Horatio being the best uncle in the world to her. I would also like Horatio to resurrect his feelings for Yelina........he needs someone who is a more mature woman than the Marisols of this world but, I would also like him and her to move into a "hotter type of realtionship" ie, bring back some of his John Kelly days. We know David Caruso can handle love scenes unless he has lost his touch.......which I doubt. If not Yelina....then they really need to introduce a new stronger type of woman into the series but not into the team. However, again I would only like snippets of a love angle.......this series is about crime. Sorry this is a bit more than a few cents worth. Once I got going couldn't stop Margaret

Thanks everyone who has responded so far. I realize how difficult this is for those who have not seen Season 6 and really put some thinking into this anyway. I agree with most of what was said although I really have no desire to view the buns of a 50+ year-old man! A nice romp under the sheets leaves much to the imagination and DC's aging body can remain a mystery. Taking one or two characters at a time, this is what I want to see: Medical Examiner: I have read that Alexx will be back for the season opener. Beyond that no one seems to know. I would like to see a man in that job and the guy who fits the bill for me was briefly seen on CSI:NY. He was oriental and really had a lot of personality. Can't remember his name but he could play the same person, having moved from NY to Miami. Yelina: In the early years I really liked her. My attitude shifted when she let Stetler abuse her and gave Horatio excuses. I never thought she was a very involved or capable mother and when she let Horatio put her on that plane with Ray I thought she was a wimp. (But that farewell was a wonderful scene, wasn't it?) Today she seems to be cardboard at the core. She is propped into a scene to assist Horatio in some way; that seems to be her only function. And where is Ray, Jr.? Out there in Never-Neverland with Susie and Madison. I would also like to see them return if only to bring some closer to the story-line. Frank: Does this fellow have children? We know he is divorced but we don't know if he had kids. I'd like to see him involved as a coach with either a baseball, soccer, or football team. Can't you just visualize him yelling at an umpire with a plug of tobacco in his mouth? Eric/Calleigh: Dear Lord, deliver me from another dipsy-doodle romance! I liked the dedicated Calleigh who dressed conservatively (compared to other CSI women) and was a no-nonsense professional. Remember Horatio's "I beg to differ" comment when she said she didn't look good in black? That's the Calleigh I want to see again. And bring her daddy back ---- sober and functioning! We need to see Eric in his wetsuit more often and if we are to see bare cheeks, his are the ones I want to see! I might not mind that romance so much if it is conducted off the job. Ryan: His story-line has been the most comprehensive of all the crew. We have seen him rise and fall several times. Season 6 shows him as a dedicated, capable investigator and I hope his stumbles are behind him. I would like that uncle he once referred to, to be a part of his life in some capacity. Natalia: Now this gal has gone from a not-too-likeable character to one that absolutely pops! She deserves more screen time just to see that sparkle in her eyes! We know she has a sister and she could be a little more involved with her in a "big sister-little sister" sort of way. Lab Crew: Don't you think they finally have a group of great characters here at last? Let Valera have a field day with that new labrat who speaks with a British accent! Maybe not a romance but at least some bantering back and forth in the lab. Horatio: What can I say that hasn't been said a thousand times! We like the animated Horatio from the first two seasons who knew how to dress in something other than black. I want to see him develop a strong father/son relationship with Kyle and both of them concerned and caring about Julia still confined to a mental hospital. I would also like to see him take out that white handkerchief more often. It is nice thinking that Horatio leaves home in the morning with a crisp, clean hanky in his pocket. I'd like to see him hand it to some little boy who would loudly blow his nose into it, and then hand it back to Horatio (I do think DC would cringe at that idea)! I'd also like just a scene where Horatio is reading a book. Marking his place would be that yellow bookmark the little girl gave him several seasons ago. That's what continuity is all about. And one last scene that we will probably never see because of the show "Boston Legal". I'd like to see Horatio sitting on the beach watching the Miami sunset, taking out a cigar and lighting it up! Awesome. Thanks again to those of you who responded. We have much food for thought, don't we? Karen

Thank you for your thoughts as well Karen. Just to clarify one point.......when I referred to John Kelly days I did not mean the showing his butt scenes........but, more of the emotions he showed when putting his arms with meaning around someone such as he did very well at times with Laura and Janice and his wife in Deadlocked and even Natalie in Black Point. I do not think there would be a problem with him showing more loving emotion in this way. His eyes could well tell all his thoughts.

Unfortunately being in season 5 at the moment here, I cannot have any opinion about where to take Horatio from here. I just have to admit I'm a bit disappointed at what I watch at the moment! Especially because I watch season 1 at the same time...and well, the change at Horatio is huge!
I don't know what kind of relationship he and Kim Delaney had, but in the first episodes they were amazing! And I saw that only with her and Sofia Milos (even though I have to agree with the Ladies I didn't like the way things progressed between the two of them!)
So I'd like to see more action (and dialogue) from Horatio. And a witty connection with a woman!
I also find Valera good so I'd like to see more of her!
Thanks Karen for giving me the chance to say my complains even if that wasn't the purpose of the thread!

i haven't seen season 7 yet (impatiently waiting for it) but i have something to say on this subject. julia - i can't stand the woman!never have done since i laid eyes on her! she can blow so hot and cold. she isn't right for horatio, she'd probably cause more problems for him. something isn't quite right with her and i can't put my finger on it.
kyle - i would love to see him develop a relationship with horatio and maybe if he had a little crush on one of the female CSI's, now that could be fun! but either way, i would like to see more of him!
yelana and ray jr - although i am a fan of horatio and yelana, i think that too much has happened for them to be romantically linked. if the writers had got them together sooner, i would have been much happier but i really don't think it will happen! besides, i don't think ray jr would approve of uncle horatio and his mother dating. i would like to see ray jr maybe moving back to miami possibly to go uni. he must be coming up to that age now!
suzy and maddison - no explaination needed, BRING THEM BACK!
valera - i'd like to see a bit more of her. we just pass her by a few times and thats it. she's a great regular and she should be even more of a regular. i think i've probably seen kyle more than valera and she's been there longer.
frank - i don't really know much about frank apart from that he can kick ass and deal the one liners just quickly and superbly as horatio. it would be nice to 'get to know' more about frank.
ryan - he has changed so much since he started. he was more enthusiastic about his job back then but that seemed to have dwindled. he had the storyline with the gambling addiction but not much else worth talking about!
natalia - for some reason i've always liked her. even when she was revealed as the 'mole' i kind of felt sorry for her as she was only doing what she was told. the storyline with her and valera with natalias ex husband i thought was great. they both get a look in when it comes to juicy storylines.
eric - has been through alot in the past 6 seasons so i'd like to see him happy. i do like the sound of the 'calliegh and eric' relationship (about bloody time) but i haven't seen it yet so i'll reserve judgement. im hoping eric can be more settled and happy now. but i do agree with you ladies that we should see him in his wetsuit more often, it is his speciality after all.
calliegh - see above about my views on her relationship with eric. it would be nice to see her with her dad again, sober of course (unlike in my story) and if things don't work out with eric, i just hope they do NOT put her with ryan. they'd clash so badly. of course i'd like to see a bit of DuCaine action but i know that will never happen.
horatio - of course i'd like his compassionate side to come out more. he seems to go do things on his own more than with the team. i get the feeling that the writers are turning him into a bit of a loner. i don't like that. he does work with the team quite a bit and when he does, he's great at pulling them all together. i do agree that he's turned to his darker side since marisol died and thats good in some story lines as its needed (like at the end of the epi where it finishes as he's about to do something nasty to a paedophile, sorry can't remember the name of it!) they also need to get him out of those black clothes (my mind has just wandered elsewhere... snap out of it sam) and into some lighter brighter clothes. and it wouldn't hurt if he took off his jacket every now and then. he also needs a good strong woman by his side. he's been without a woman for too long. the rest of the team have had relationships since marisol died so why can't horatio?? a relationship might even bring out the compassionate side in him a bit more. there is one things i wouldn't like them to change is horatio's relationship with children. he is so sweet with kids.
thats just my opinion but you got to consider that i have seen season 7 yet as it hasn't arrived here yet! luv sam x

"I really have no desire to view the buns of a 50+ year-old man! " No, nor would I (except ONE 53 year old we know of..) Lol! I am 53.. I can say that! His would be more interesting to me than mine to him!
On a more serious note, I have to agree i would love to see the more compassionate side of Horatio mixed with a little darkness and anger. I agree with Margaret that one is neccesary for the other to exist. Darkness only is just too much and too grim.
I have always liked Yelina but I agree that hanging out with Stetler was a little out of character given the character that the writers had developed and seem to be continuing to present on her visits to the team. Because she visits the show occasionally, I think it is the perfect time for Horatio to take the bit between the teeth and have the relationship they have always longed for. I say perfect as the relationship wouldn't take over the essential focus of the show but would give us glimpses of the emotional and sensitive side of both of these characters. The downside of this could be that the fantasy of the relationship would die. I sometimes wonder if that is why they leave this relationship at it's current level.
I haven't seen the Eic/Calleigh epis, nor met Erics father so can't comment there. I have read that Calleigh has shown more of her feminine sensitive side of late and this is a good thing. I am less impressed with the sudden powerhouse boss-girl theme. I find Julia rather ghostly as a performer so really enjoyed her portrayal of becoming manic as it demonstrated her skill a little more. Not sure where it all goes. Does it turn out that she has schizophrenia or schizo-affective disorder??? Wow! That would account for her usually ghostly blunt acting.....(Slap!)
I quite like the new ME but won't comment any further as I haven't seen epis beyond 7.07 Cheating Death (which i thought was a little bland). We haven't seen CSI M for a few weeks again. That is the norm here; on a few weeks, then whoosh! Gawn! I was told CBS sends them by satellite in sets of a few epis so we await more epi's from the ether.
