I am posting this picture on behalf of Karen who has Photobucket problems right now. Margaret In Karen's own words she says.... Have you ever wondered what DC's childhood home looks like? This picture was found on a site called Famous Forest Hillians. Check it out and you will see the Forest Hills section of Queens is a pretty nice place. Karen

Thanks so much for helping me achieve this, Margaret. I am convinced part of my problem with photobucket is that I am just not retaining what I did and everytime I try to upload a picture, I must start from scratch. It doesn't help that my e-mail address has changed and they try to send me a new password to my old e-mail server. I have since learned to copy down my various names and passwords --- all this predated my wising up to keeping track of my nicknames.

OMG! Thanks very much Karen and Margaret! It is so freaky. As I may be in NY later this year, I was wondering about what David's family home might be like just this week and whether it might be included in one of those tours!

Looks like a nice place to live, even though we all know he didn't have the easiest childhood. Thanks for letting us know, Karen and thank you for helping out by posting this for Karen, Margaret. Sandra

This is NICE... Wouldn't mind living there myself..... I wonder if the house is worth more because people might know that DC lived there as a child...?
It's interesting how property values go up when they're associated with a celebrity...

I don't know if DC's mother is living now, but he said a few years ago that she was still living in the house where he was raised. He also said it was one of the less expensive houses in an area of upscale homes. Since his mother had her Master's Degree in Library Science and his father became editor-in-chief for Newsweek magazine, and he went to a private (parochial) school, he wasn't exactly destitute. But with the family broken through divorce, and everyone working, it must have been a very lonely childhood. He referred to himself once as a "latchkey" kid, meaning he came home from school to an empty house. Around 2002 there was an 'In Style' article and picture spread of his home in Miami with Margaret. I am thinking it was in that article where he said that when he turned the knob on the door to his home, he needed to know there was someone on the other side that was happy to see him. I am sure at least part of that need stemmed from the loneliness he must have felt as a child.

I have never read the article re being a latchkey kid. Thanks Karen. My folks were also separated and we were latch-key kids too. I wonder if David gave his sister hell as happened occasionally between us. lol! Personally I don't think we are too damaged by it. We all had jobs to do when we got home; mine to peel the potatoes. But my sis, the eldest, occasionally locked my brothers in a dark hallway. One bro now in his 50's had nightmares for years. And they are still not close to this day.

I've always thought that David, his mom and his sister lived in with his grandparents after his parents got divorced, so the story about him being a "latchkey-kid" is new to me as well. I thought his grandparents were there and raised him and his sister, as mom had to work a fulltime job. In the interview that was published in the "Cigar Afficionado", he said that his mom was still living in Queens and I took it she was still living in the same house he grew up in, but I could be wrong about that. I have to admit though that he doesn't say that with so many words......... Sandra
