Hey, there, ladies. Hope you all had a good weekend. Late Happy Mother's Day to those of you who might be Moms or Grandma's (or maybe even great-Grandma's LOL).
So, what does Horatio have up his sleeve, hmmmm? Let's see.
Please enjoy. Here we go.
**************************
Chapter 88
They quickly made their way out to the Hummer, and piled in as quickly as they could. Stevie gave directions to go to Mr Fong’s store. For just a moment, Horatio felt a weird sense of dejá vu, but shook it off. The front of Mr Fong’s store was similar to the jewelry store where Speed was killed.
Eric noticed Horatio’s discomfort. “Hey, H. You ok?” Eric put his hand on the older man’s shoulder.
Horatio blinked back to the here and now. “I’m fine, Eric.“ He looked over at the youngster. “You ready, Stevie?”
Stevie grinned and nodded. “Yup. Let’s go.”
Horatio looked back at the other three men. “Please wait here for us, Gentlemen.“
He got out of the Hummer, and went back to the storage area of the Hummer, and retrieved Stevie’s wheelchair, then walked with it, around to Stevie’s door.
Eric turned to Frank and Ryan. “I’m going to go in with them. You two wait right here, ok?”
When they both nodded, Eric hopped out of the back seat and walked around to help Horatio get Stevie into his wheelchair. Eric swung the Hummer door shut, then held the Store door open for Horatio to get Stevie into the store.
As they entered the store, they were met by to Asian men, or rather a man and a boy. The man was an elderly man, and the boy was about Stevie’s age, or just a bit older.
The boy greeted Stevie. “Hey, there, Stevie. How are you doing? I thought you were in the Hospital?”
Stevie chuckled as he nodded. “I am, Peter. The Doctor just let me out for the day. I have to go back later today.“ He turned to look at Horatio. “H, this is my friend, Peter Fong. He and I are friends from school. His Grandpa, Mr Fong, owns the Store.“ He continued the introductions. “Peter, Mr Fong, this is my friend, Horatio, or better yet, Lt Horatio Caine with the Police Dept’s Crime Lab, and the shadow back here is Eric Delko. They work with my Aunt Calleigh at the Crime Lab.“
Peter held his hand out to Horatio. “Lt Caine. My pleasure to meet you, sir. I saw you at school the other day, and I saw you go into Stevie’s class. I hoped at the time, that there wasn’t anything additionally wrong with him, but I realized I hadn’t see him in school for a couple of days.“
Horatio shook the youngster’s hand. “Well, Peter, we are investigating Stevie’s rotten string of bad luck, but that’s not why we’re here. I’m actually here on a personal matter that I need to speak with your grandfather about.”
The older Asian man’s eyebrows arched in surprise. He bowed to Horatio and replied. “What can I do for you, Lt?”
Horatio bowed to him in return, and explained. “Well, Mr Fong, I noticed the necklace that you made for Stevie, and I was wondering if I could get a similar pair for my lady friend and I.”
“Certainly, Lt. Please come with me, and we’ll see what we can find for you.”
“Thank you, sir.“ Horatio followed the man, unaware of the surprised look being passed between Stevie and Eric.
After careful consideration of the choices, and with Stevie’s and Eric’s input, Horatio made his decision on what to get for his girl.
They made their way back out to the Hummer, and Horatio put Stevie into the front passenger’s seat. As Horatio helped him with his seatbelt, Stevie told him.
“She’s really going to like it a lot, H.”
Horatio grinned at the boy’s enthusiasm. “I sure hope so, Stevie.”
Eric was quick to agree. “No, he’s right, H. Calleigh will love it, and you.” Eric put Stevie’s wheelchair in the back of the Hummer.
Ryan’s and Frank’s eyebrows both rose at that.
“What did you do, Horatio?“ Frank asked, before Ryan could.
Before Horatio could respond, if he even would, Stevie replied for him.
“He bought Aunt Calleigh a necklace similar to mine, Det Frank.”
Eric nodded wordlessly, as he climbed into the back seat and the three men traded grins.
It’s about time. They thought to themselves.
“Please try not to ruin my surprise, Gentlemen.”
“Don’t worry, H. You can count on us.“ Ryan told the man.
“Yeah, H. We won’t tell, or at least I’ll try my hardest not to.“ Stevie chuckled. “She’s going to be floored when you give it to her. It almost makes me wish I could be there to see the fireworks.”
Horatio chuckled as he climbed into the driver’s seat, and put on his seatbelt. He looked at his watch, then turned the key to start the engine of the Hummer. “We need to get a move on, or we’ll be late.”
Stevie’s eyebrows climbed into his hair. “Late for what, H?“
Horatio grinned mischievously, and his eyes twinkled. “You’ll see, Stevie.”
Horatio pulled out of the parking lot, and out, onto the main road.
********************
Please let me know what you think.
(Next up - Stevie finally gets his main surprise for the day, and I get to start a new thread. Wooohooooo.)

Great chapters Oracle. I bet Calleigh will be over the moon when she gets her present. Especially when Horatio also wears it... I have to admit that, sometimes, Stevie is too adult for me though. I can only imagine that he had to grow up rather quickly because of the accident and that he wants to be the man of the house... but sometimes I really wonder if he's 12 or 40. That's definitely no criticism here, just letting out my thoughts. Stevie is a wonderful and charming young man, more adult than a lot of other "real" adults, so his girlfriend can call herself lucky to have such a gentleman. Jess

Not to worry, Jess. Sometimes I worry, that I'm making him sound 'too' adult as well. When I was twelve, though, my parents were getting divorced, and I was smack in the middle of it. Luckily my brother doesn't remember any of it, but I was part of the 'reason' why they got divorced. I won't go into any of the gory details,......but, you know.
Anyway, I had to grow up far too quickly myself, and I know that alot of kids know more than we give them credit for, especially in this day and age. So, between all of that, and a lot of speculation on my part (LOL), I've had to just write off the top of my head.
Thanks for the different point of view.
