Two very nice chapters Oracle. I'm happy that you sorted out your computer problems. As much as I want to see the case progress, I'm happy for now to see the boys having a lot of fun. Can't wait for what else they had planned for Stevie. Jess

Hey, ladies. I'm sorry it's been so long since I updated, but RL got away from me. Between the drama at home, and having been informed at work that the call center is closing as of 4-15, my life has been a little crazy, not to mention medicines have to be readjusted, and the like. As I said, RL got away from me. Hopefully things will attempt to calm down. In the meantime, here's the next chapter. It feels short, at least to me, but I didn't want to make it any longer. This felt like the place to end it for the moment.
Please read and enjoy.

Chapter 84
As they were driving through town, near the beach, Ryan suddenly said. “Whoa, Eric. Look at that.”
Eric looked out the window. “What?” He watched the activity for a moment, then turned to his younger companion. “You’ve never been rock climbing, Ryan?”
Ryan chuckled. “That’s a little hard to do, when they are no rocks, or mountains within hundreds of miles.”
“Actually, Ryan, there’s several places here in Miami that have in-door rock climbing walls.” Stevie told them. “My Dad and I used to love to go ’wall climbing’. When I told our trainer that Dad had been killed, and that I had lost the use of my legs, he said that I could still go ‘wall climbing’, but that I would still need some retraining, to get over some of the obstacles that I had no problems with before.”
“When you get out of the hospital, Stevie, you’re going to have to take us ‘wall climbing’. Just so we can see what you can do.” Eric told the youngster.
Stevie and Horatio shared a quick look. “Sure, Mr Eric, we can do that.”
After a few moments, they pulled into the mall. As Horatio parked in a Handicapped space, Stevie asked.
“What are we doing here?”
As Ryan and Frank got the wheelchair out of the back, Eric explained.
“We thought you would enjoy a day out to your favorite hang out places.”
Horatio and Eric walked around to the passenger side, and Stevie opened the door, as he pointed out. “I may like to hang out at the mall, but you guys don’t.”
Horatio picked Stevie up and put the youngster into his wheelchair.
Suddenly a strange voice called out. “Hey, you guys. None of you is handicapped. Get that monster out of here. Save them for somebody who needs one.”
They looked around and saw the man who had spoken. A taller Asian man who was also with an elderly Asian woman, who was using a walker.
Horatio opened his mouth to say something, but Stevie reached up and put his little hand on the man’s arm.
“Hold on a minute, H.” Stevie maneuvered his way past his friends, as he told the man. “You’re right, sir. They’re not, but I am.” He stopped his chair where he knew the man could see him, and, sure enough, the man turned as white as a sheet.
“Even if I weren’t here, and they parked here, it would only mean that they were doing their jobs, and didn’t have the time to look for another place to park. As police officers, they’re able to do that, in an emergency, and a crime scene would definitely be considered an emergency, don’t you think?“
“Of course. You’re right.” The Asian man told him.
“Good.“ Stevie replied thoughtfully. “I don’t mean to make it sound like I‘m a know it all, or that I’m bigger than my britches, but I just wanted you to consider the fact that the police are able to do things that we aren’t, because they are the police, that’s all.”
“You certainly have a point, young man. I hadn’t thought of it like that before, but you are absolutely correct.”
“Please try to have a good day, sir. Take care.“ Stevie watched the pair walk away, but when he turned back to the guys, he got four various looks, from the men. He asked. “What?” Wondering what they were thinking.
“Well done, Stevie.” Horatio told him.
“Yeah.“ Eric agreed. “We couldn’t have said it any better ourselves, Stevie.”
“No way.“ Ryan added. “Good job, buddy.”
“We may need to have you go to work in our Community Outreach program, Stevie.” Frank told the youngster. “You handled that just right.”
Stevie’s little head ducked at the praise from his heroes. “Thanks a lot guys. I just told him what was on my mind and in my heart. That‘s all.” Stevie moved his wheelchair towards the entrance of the mall. “You guys coming, or are we going to stand out here all day?”
The men traded amused glances for a quick minute, then chuckled, as they caught up with the youngster, and Ryan took the reigns, coming up behind Stevie, to push his wheelchair for awhile, as they all headed towards the entrance of the mall.

I really do appreciate the well wishes, ladies, thank you very much. Luckily I'm not as badly off as some people who have lost their jobs. My brother makes quite a bit at his job, and between that, and what I'll be getting from Unemployment, we'll be doing fairly well, so, if Heaven forbid, that I don't get another job for awhile, we'll be relatively ok.
Before I lost my job, I had put in several applications with various companies, so hopefully it won't take that long for them to get back to me. In the meantime, I'll continue with that, and hope for the best.
Back to the story, though. The guys are still at the mall. Also, I'm not sure if, on the series that anyone has said where Horatio get's his glasses, and I don't think it's been made public where the production company get's his shades from, so I've taken the artist's license to suppose a big leap here. With that in mind, here's the next chapter. Oh, yeah, and very slight partial spoiler for the season ender of Season 3 (the episode called '10-7') Please read and enjoy. Here we go.
*****************
Chapter 85
They walked in through the door, and the men took off their sunglasses.
Stevie put his hand out. “Hey, H. Can I see your sunglasses, please?”
“Sure.” Horatio handed them to the youngster.
Stevie turned them over in his hands from all sides. “Those are cool shades, H. Where do you get them?”
Horatio grinned as he explained. “I buy my shades at a little place just around the corner. You’ll see.”
They walked down the hall and went around the corner. Right in front of them was a Sunglass Hut kiosk.
As they approached the kiosk, the young woman behind the counter looked up.
“Hey there, Lt Caine. How are you today?”
“I’m doing pretty good, Jayla. My young friend here, in the wheelchair, says he wants a pair of shades like mine. I don’t suppose you have them in any smaller sizes, do you?”
The African American young woman looked up and grinned at Stevie’s Horatio style head duck. She chuckled. “Ok. Let me see what we can do, Lt. May I please see yours?”
“Sure.” Horatio gave her his pair of sunglasses.
She turned them around from all sides. “Let me double check a couple of thing, Lt. I’m pretty sure, though, that we have those in smaller sizes.”
Jayla handed Horatio his pair back, then turned and walked over to the other side of the kiosk.
She knelt out of sight for several minutes, then the sounds of doors sliding back and forth could be heard. After a few minutes, Jayla stood back up and walked over with several boxes. “These are all that style, but in different sizes.”
“Thanks a lot for all your help, Jayla.” Stevie told her as she walked out of the kiosk and around to the youngster.
“It’s no problem.” Jayla replied.
Through trial and error they did find that she had a pair of sunglasses that would fit him.
As Horatio paid for the purchase, Stevie told Jayla. “Thanks again for all your help, Jayla. I’ll only be coming here for my shades, for as long as you’re here.”
Jayla chuckled. “Thank you, Stevie. I’d appreciate that.”
Horatio smiled at her, as he gathered up the purchase. He hooked the bag on one of the hooks at the top of the back rest of Stevie’s wheelchair.
As they walked away from the kiosk, Ryan moved behind Stevie to push him. “Ok. Where are we going next?”
They continued to walk for a few additional minutes, until Horatio asked. “That’s a good question. Where are we going next?”
They were approaching an elevator.
“Well, if memory serves, the next floor up, there is a craft store just a bit off the elevator, if you guys don’t mind, that is?” Stevie asked.
The men passed looks quickly among themselves, then Ryan told the youngster. “Don‘t worry about it, Stevie. We‘re more than willing to go in with you.”
Stevie chuckled. “Uh, huh.”
They get on the elevator and go up to the next floor. When they get off the elevator, they turn to the right and go in the craft store.
Stevie is greeted by an older Native American woman. “There you are, Little One. How are Mama and Papa?”
“Hello, Mrs Spotted Dog.” Stevie waved at her. “Mom is fine, but my Dad was killed when this happened.” The youngster indicated in the general direction of his wheelchair.
“Oh, no.” The woman groaned. “I’m very sorry, to hear that about your Papa, Little One. How are you doing with this thing?” She asked as she also motioned vaguely toward the wheelchair.
Stevie cracked a grin. “Well, Mrs Spotted Dog, I think I’m doing ok, but my friends are here to keep me on the straight and narrow.” He teased.
She looked up at the sound of the men’s laughter. Her eyes grew wide when she saw Horatio. “Lt Caine.“ She breathed in reverence, and awe.
Mrs Spotted Dog added. “Congratulations on getting that gang that was trying to bomb us.” She explained. “We saw you on the news awhile ago. Good job catching those guys.”
Horatio ducked his head in an attempt to get away from the unwanted extra attention. “I didn’t do it alone, though, Mrs Spotted Dog. I couldn’t have done it without the help of my team.” Horatio told her. “Not only did they help with the investigative aspects of the case, but, once we knew where the bomb was and when it might go off, they also backed me up in taking the gang down and making the arrests.” He added.
Eric, Ryan and Tripp exchanged knowing smiles, each knowing the red head well enough to know that he wouldn‘t take the limelight for himself, that he’d be the first to share the spotlight. They all knew though, oddly enough, that if there was a problem, or one of them got into trouble, the red head would be the first person to take the heat, and the blame.
They each realized that, while they knew these aspects to Horatio’s personality, they wondered why that was the case.
Those thoughts went by in the blink of an eye.
Mrs Spotted Dog chuckled, then asked. “Okay. Moving right along, then. What brought you in today, Little One? What can we do for you?”
Stevie also chuckled. “I’m mostly going to be just looking around, if I can, Mrs Spotted Dog. I wanted to see what kind of velvet posters you have and I wanted to see if you had any of the smaller sized pony beads in stock. The gang really liked them and they really work out well for bracelets and necklaces, as well as the beaded animal key chains, etc.”
Mrs Spotted Dog smiled. “I get it, Stevie. Go on over and take a look at the new posters and pictures we have, and in the meantime, I’ll take a look at our beads, and see what I can do for you.”
Stevie grinned. “Yes, please, Mrs Spotted Dog. I’ll just wait right here, if you don’t mind?”
“Not a problem.” She replied. “I’ll be back as quick as I can.” Mrs Spotted Dog walked away from the register station and walked toward the back of the store.
They heard a door open, then closed again.
Several minutes later, she came back out to the cash register.
“Here you go, Stevie. These are the size you want. We have them in several different package sizes for you to choose from.”
“Cool.” Stevie replied, looking at the beads. “I’d like to get one of these small buckets, please, Mrs Spotted Dog, and I’d also like to get two packages of the round alphabet beads and three of the elastic cord, please.”
“Sure. I’ll be right back.” Mrs Spotted Dog replied. She walked away from the register for a moment, then returned with the requested items. When she came back, she set the items on the counter.
Ryan reached around Stevie and picked up one of the packages of beads. “Whoa! Those are some cool colors, Stevie.”
Stevie smiled when he looked up at the youngest CSI. “I have those colors in here, too, Mr Ryan.“ He pointed to the bucket of beads.
Ryan turned the bucket in place for a moment, then stopped it and pointed in to the plastic bucket. “You sure do, Stevie, right there.”
Stevie looked up at Ryan again. “Is that one of your colors, Mr Ryan?”
Ryan looked confused for a moment, then he realized what the youngster meant. “Yes, Stevie, it is one of my favorite colors.”
“That’s good to know.” Stevie remarked.
Horatio paid for the items.
As Mrs Spotted Dog bagged the other items, she told Stevie. “Good luck with your therapy, Little One, and be sure to tell Mama I said ‘hello’.”
Stevie nodded. “I’ll tell her, Mrs Spotted Dog. Thanks a lot for all your help. Have a good day.”
“You too.” The older woman replied as she also nodded to the men.
They nodded as well, as Eric and Frank picked up the purchased items, then they left the store.
