Have you ever wondered about what the relationship between Horatio and his mother was? From 'Under Suspicion' and 'Skeletons', we have an idea about what his father was like. How did his mother fit into the picture? It's not a pretty picture, I'm afraid. Rated T but is violent and has a smattering of 'language.' www.fanfiction.net/s/3499731/1/

After reading the first chapter I already thought this was going to be a powerful story. Watching CSI Miami and Horatio it well could've been this way for him. He is so shy with women. Not looking straight into their eyes, low voice, almost like a whisper. Making him humble in a way. It's a shame that his dad felt that abuse was a way to control his child. It will work for a while but not for the rest of their lives. The child will learn that on the street. Give the first punch, fight back. Turn the other cheek? No way, not always. So Horatio did what he had to do! But H wouldn't be H if he didn't feel some sort of guilt.
I hope that once we will see how Horatio is with a woman. That we may witness him being happy, feeling relaxed, a woman that he can talk too. Solid with 2 feet on the ground. Not one who has a sad story to carry around with her and bother him with that.
sigh....but I guess that is just whisful thinking. Thanks Net...it was a sad, but powerful and strong story. I loved every word of it.

Even abusive parents can have positive influences on a child's life. Even though she was damaging, his mother was basically a good person.

*Even though she was damaging, his mother was basically a good person.*
Basically she was. My guess is (in this story) she new she was wrong ( that's why it didn't happen again) but couldn't help herself. Or didn't know how to. When a woman wants something nice from a man, and she's not getting it from her spouse, then it's understandable that she'll turn to her son.
