Stetler --- aah --- the guy we all love to hate. Hope we see a bit more of him this year. Thanks for posting this, I am looking forward to tomorrow as usual.

So, Stetler is a Lieutenant now. Nice twist, though I was sort of expecting it. I like it--it adds an interesting dynamic to the show.
We got to see H with a kid, and what a tender moment it was.
Lots of firsts in this episode. My favorite? The fact that we got to see the team SOCIALIZE!! I am over-the-moon happy about that. I can't tell you how happy it made me to hear laughter from the team as the screen faded out.
I won't say anymore--I don't want to take away from the wonderful review that I know is coming. But...I am going to say that Miami is now 2 for 2. Very solid start to season 8.

Hmm. The question is, how to be positive about an episode that was so out there in left field that it left me swimming in confusion. The plot revolved around a man who tried to do right by his work and his family, but through a bit of bad luck and a devious ex-wife wound up snapping and taking the CSI lab hostage. Why the lab? Matthew Sloan saw Horatio on TV and came to the conclusion that H would listen to his story and get it sorted out. Unfortunately, Sloan was not taking his meds and this caused him to get too agitated; he shot the receptionist and Horatio had to go in and retrieve her. We did get to see H in Kevlar for that very brief moment. This event was glossed over (the gal did not die and the new guy, Jesse, got to show us his well developed chest), and as the plot thickens we learn of a partner who put up counterfit money to finance a business venture, and an ex-wife who abused their son but managed to blame him and get the kid to lie about it. Can you see why I am shaking my head here? It also seems to me like Horatio is taking on the responsibility of another kid here. As they took the father away he told his son that Horatio would look after him and Jason went running into Horatio's arms. Will we ever see him again? My guess is that we don't.
Stetler did try to help but with Horatio asserting "this is my lab" he did not get too far with it. None of the people who were taken hostage were people whom we knew. All the regulars had not gotten into the lab as yet.
Two parts were done really well: The introduction of a new character, Jesse Cardoza, done over a two week period made sense. I'm sure we'll all take to him in time as long as he compliments DC and does not try to upstage him. The second really nice moment came at the end when everyone gathered at a local watering hole for drinks. Horatio ordered club soda saying someone had to drive and Ryan retorted that he'd offer to drive but he was too short to reach the peddle. Episode ended with laughter.

Hhhmmmmm.....do I sense some mixed feelings here? Or is that the difference between how a younger person and someone a little bit older looks at the show? ;D Will wait and see how the others come in with their comments...... Sandra

All in all it seems to be quite a thrilling episode, though - referring to Karen - some parts of it seem to be a bit off topic. Hmmm, are there others around who are able to satisfy the curiosity of those who are miles apart from s8? *grin*

I watched the epi and decided that the writer did a really good job on the bad/good guy. This is something that could go down if alot of things were in play. I have seen first hand what extreams people will go to when they feel they have been wronged. Also the ending scene with the little boy and H may or may not lead somewhere. The end scene with the gang at a local beach club having an off the clock drink was done well. I liked what H said. I was the dedicated driver when I went out with my friends because I don't drink.

PS. Thank you Karen for the review.

@ Karen....Thank you for your review. Read with great interest and noticed you said you were a little confused in areas.......well having just read the link that Emily has posted I am not surprised that we sometimes get confused as to where some plots are going.......when the writers do so many revisions; wonder if they know where they are going themselves. LOL
Seriously though, it does sound a pretty good episode to me in that we seem to have some team work back. I am very happy Stetler is back. Think I may like the new guy.......but, not if he is to upstage Horatio.......time will tell. Looking forward to seeing how this all pans out.
@ Emily......thank you for the link......this was very interesting reading.

Thanks for the link, Em. After reading how this story was developed, it is a wonder that the actors involved got a chance to learn their lines. Seems like they had to learn, unlearn and relearn ---- that's a lot of "learning". I have this strange feeling that somewhere down the road we will see an episode that has a jellyfish in it!
I actually do think my age played a role in how I viewed this story-line. I am so used to seeing law enforcement people rally together to take down a "perp" who has shot one of their own, that I was somewhat taken-aback when the receptionist's injury was handled like a slight interruption in their day. Upon reflection, that little scene served two purposes: it shut up the people who want to see DC in kevlar( I'm one of those) and it showed the female audience that there is some cheesecake for them now that Eddie's on board. A bit cynical on my part, perhaps, but I was hoping new people would bring about better story-lines. I really hated to see what happened to Jason. The one thing he feared was losing his parents. The one thing that happened is that he lost his parents. And why wasn't he reunited with his step-dad who was NOT the abuser? That's the source of some of my confusion. But I do agree with all who loved the ending. That is what this series lacked --- the feeling of comradship and togetherness after work. I do not think we will ever see Horatio drink anything but coffee or a soda, though. We very seldom see DC eat or drink anything on film.
And one last observation. Whatever was going on between Caruso and Proctor seems to have been resolved. I enjoyed seeing them working together again.

Thank you for the additional observations Karen. I hope you are right about the Caruso and Proctor situation. But, who needs cheesecake when we have Horatio.....well maybe some of the younger ones will like this.
