Looks like Season 8 is full of interesting possibilities. Maybe Horatio can tap onto Ned and borrow his "negotiator" skills.

Here's a theory I have about season 8, and if I'm right it will mean a HUGE change to the show.
I think Delko is going to die in the first episode. There are several reasons why I think this, and I'll share them if anyone is curious. But I saw something today that REALLY backs up my theory.

Haha. Alright, Karen.
1) With Eddie Cibrian joining the cast of Miami it seems as though the 'hunky CSI' role is filled. Having both his character, Jesse Cardoza, and Delko around would be a bit redundant. Plus, if Delko is still around there's not much room in the cast for another main character (unless he would be replacing the screen time left open after the ME's departure).
2) According to the script for the premiere, Eric has been shot in the head. AGAIN. *sigh* He apparently has some serious brain swelling and is in real danger. Calleigh has to make a tough decision about whether or not to commence with a procedure that could save his life or kill him.
3) I've seen most of the script for the second episode, and guess who I didn't see? Delko is nowhere to be found.
4) In that same script I saw Calleigh say a couple of things that REALLY lead me to believe that Delko has either died or is, in some other way, gone.
I just want to add one other thing. I've had a feeling that Delko was going to die for a month or so. Everyone who disagree with me shared the same reasoning. "We haven't heard that he's leaving the show." My thought was this--I would be much, MUCH more impressed with TPTB if they didn't let us know that he's leaving the show before they killed his character off. That's the problem with so, so many shows. You hear that an actor is leaving and then (Surprise, surprise) they die. That's why no one believed that Horatio was dead last season. We had gotten confirmation from TPTB that David was NOT leaving the show. Therefore the suspense was completely ruined. (Not that many of us ever thought he was actually dead.) I'm just hoping that for once TPTB have done something smart and sneaky.

Gosh, I hardly know what to say. That would leave only David and Emily left from the original cast. BUT if Emily Proctor wants Calleigh to have a baby, discovering she was "expecting" after Eric's death, would make that a way to hang onto his memory and she could join the crowd of "single moms" in TVland.

For what my two cents is worth. I actually come down on the side of what Emily believes. When it was first announced that Eddie Cibrian was joining the cast, I wondered how he was going to fit into the set up as a regular. My first thoughts were that he was going to be another CSI in which case I had the fear we would be losing one of the current regulars, or maybe he might take the ME's job. Thought this might be a possibility,as although we haven't seen much of her in the UK as yet, we know from US reviews that Tara is probably going to disappear. Or, maybe even another Stetler type of role. However, having only seen 4 episodes of season 7 it is very clear that we are seeing much, much more of Ryan now working alongside Horatio and not so much of Delko. So are we already weakening Eric's role in preparation, don't know. I also don't know if Delko is more involved in later episodes. It just seems strange to me that Ryan has a much bigger role now than ever before. I also do not believe Delko could survive another head injury. I hope I am wrong because I like Delko but I have like Emily suspected that Delko might be the one to go in accommodating a new cast member, and because of what I have said, I think this has been on the cards for sometime. I hope I am wrong, because I like Delko. I would rather we kept Delko and had a male ME replacement.
One question right now.......why would Calleigh have to make the decision?

@margaret: I wondered also why Calleigh would be making decisions regarding Eric. It was well established in Season 7 and even in earlier seasons that he does have living parents. But I am quite used to the fact that the writers "forget" about all that has passed whenever it is convenient for them to do so.

Yes, we now have met both of Eric's parents. I don't know why Calleigh has to make the choice. I just know that the script has a conversation between Horatio, Calleigh and Alexx about what to do with him.
Here's how the script reads:
Horatio: Or he could wake up on his own.
Alexx: There's no guarantee.
Calleigh: You're talking about brain surgery.
Alexx: I'm not saying it's without risk. But a decision has to be made.
Horatio: Give her some time, Alexx.
Alexx: (emotions high) There is no time. (then, calmer) He's stable for now. But the fragment is contributing to the swelling. If we don't go in and remove it now we may not get another chance.
Calleigh: (looks to Horatio) What should I do?
Horatio: What Eric would want you to do.
That's all I see of that scene, but it's a big part of why I'm suspicious about Delko's survival.

p.s. I'm now hearing that Rory Cochrane will NOT be returning as Speed. He turned them down. The question now becomes, will they find another actor or somehow write him out of the script? I'm guessing the former, but that's not going to make very many people happy.

Could it be possible that when Season 8 opens, Calleigh and Eric have eloped?

I doubt it, since the last we saw, Eric was missing, and he'd been shot by Calleigh.

This is fascinating girls. I would be surprised if they killed off Eric and managed to keep it a secret-as has been said, important news regarding the cast is usually leaked.Though TPTB have managed to keep ME's fate under wraps. I would really miss Eric-he works so well with Horatio and brings a convincing latino vibe to the show. The Ryan/H partnership is also nice but doesn't have the same emotional history. Would have been good to see Speed again .If he has turned it down,I think it is understandable-it was totally unecessary to kill him off in the first place.Hasn't Rory said as much in interviews ? I get the impression Rory was annoyed by the way his departure was handled-maybe TPTB were punishing him for daring to leave. If so,I expect they regret it now-if they had kept Speed alive ,we could have had occasional guest appearances and not just one revisit as a figment of Eric's imagination! Speed was a great character-that 1 ep when he came back showed us what we are missing.Jonathan Togo is a great addition to the show -but a bit of Rory from time to time would have been much appreciated. Karen's "Kyle as Horatio "idea is absolute genius! Evan would definitely have to go red though. He is much slighter than DC but I expect they could get round that with a bit of TV trickery. Love Mandy

I hope they don't kill Eric, but it seems that lately they like to kill main characters (see CSI Las Vegas.... ) BTW, I was thinking about another way to make Horatio younger: Changing his hairstyle and clothes and showing him only from his back. Anyway this flashback epi sounds very interesting!! Gonsy

oh wow...they can't get rid of Eric!
But Calleigh did not shoot him...no way could he have drove so far into the glades if he was shot..plus the bad guys who took him wouldnt have bothered if he was already shot....When Calleigh saw it was Eric she didn't fire at the car...she hesitated
They let us know that someone on CSI:NY was going to leave just not who but we've had no word that anyone from the other 2 shows were leaving so I'll wait and see!
I thought the new guy was gonna be a cop not a CSI?? tanya
