Just caught up with two chapters. So the sniper didn't leave any traces, which I did not expect at this point, but I guess he will slip up soon enough. Poor Stella, is not finding life easy at the moment......come on Mac, help her out here. So Calleigh is now on her way to New York....soon the whole team will be there.........causing unrest back at the lab. Could understand Natalia's mood though as she is not in the know as to the reasons.

Hmmm, I guess this time the point goes to Sam. Don't we all need a little love today? Just remember the date... Chapter 28Stella and Mac had visited the apartment matching to the short description “doorman – little nice view” first and now entered the building matching with Stella’s short description “doorman – very nice view”. They had been announced and got the key by the doorman at once. When Stella opened the door, Mac went into the apartment as if he would approach a new crime-scene. With a hard glance he analyzed everything: the comfortable space between living- and bedroom, the elegant corner for the kitchen, the small bathroom and… the wonderful view over some parts of Midtown Manhattan. Then he nodded silently and smiled. That was the reason, why Stella did appreciate Mac’s assistance whole-heartedly. The way he checked each and everything made her feel secure to make the right decision. She smiled when she said: “You like it?” “This apartment has a very good atmosphere, it is light, you gonna have enough space and this view is breath-taking. – If I was you and the monthly rent is not faked I would take it.” Stella nodded agreement, but when she and Mac’s glance met, her smile vanished. Mac noticed it at once. “What’s wrong, Stella?” “Nothing. – Nothing concerning this apartment. … - It doesn’t matter.” Stella turned away and slowly went to the large windows of the living-room. Outside it was getting darker by the minute and so the reflection in the glass told a different story about Stella’s feelings. When she looked up, she saw the sad expression on her own face and the deeply worried glance of Mac standing a few steps behind her, and who did not seem to understand anything at all. Slowly she turned around and tried to look into his face. First she did not know what to say, but then decided to take the direct way. “Horatio’s a colleague and nothing else, Mac. And I don’t want to get teased every moment we’re working together. I don’t handle him in any special way…” “Stella…” Mac tried to interrupt her. “And as far as I know he’s in love with Calleigh Duquesne…” “Stella…” Mac tried it again. “…well, concerning the way she responded on my phone-call, when I asked her to join our investigations here in New York. She booked her ticket while we still had been talking.” “Stella!” Mac was close to shout, but still Stella was not willing to listen. “But first you, followed by Danny and then Sheldon gave those strange comments on me and Horatio. That was more than enough, but everybody tells me that it’s only teasing and..!” Mac bridged the gap between him and Stella; grabbed her at her upper arms, but instead of shaking her to get her attention, he pulled her close and shut her lips with a kiss. Stella was too surprised to react in any way. She only felt how her emotions flooded over her and finally she answered his kiss which got an increasing intensity by the second. When they both ended this kiss a shy grin went over their faces, but they kept their close position. Finally Mac said a bit hoarsely: “That seems to be quite a good method to get you quiet, eh?” And Stella silently teased back: “And now you start telling me, that you’ve only waited for an opportunity to test it.” More seriously Mac answered: “I just didn’t want to miss another chance.” TBCHope you enjoyed it...

that point that goes to me, is that for the comment about not all of the evidence not being in or the comment about Mac and Stella?? just wandering! Yep! Some of the all those guesses are quite close what might happen next and this time you've been the one coming closer to the next point... ;D BUT... Stella and Mac are at the beginning of a promising evening, but what do you think will happen at just an other place in Manhattan? - Will it be as romantic as in the apartment somewhere in Midtown? Just remember how a fed could be able to spoil the fun ... Just have a look... Chapter 29At the hotel Horatio was already impatiently waiting for Calleigh to come. While Eric went straight into his room, shut the door and fell onto his bed right away, Horatio walked up and down in his room. He smiled a bit about Eric, who had been glad that he had managed this first day in Manhattan, but at the same time had skipped the chance to explore the city this evening. When Horatio got the message that Calleigh would arrive with one of the next flights from Miami to New York, Horatio changed from the single-bed room to a double-bedded room at once. As he heard the knocking on the door he rushed to open it. “Calleigh!” Horatio tried to take her into his arms, but was blocked by her traveling-bag. “Hey Horatio,” Calleigh answered a bit shy accompanied by a little smile, got into the room and placed her bag near a nightstand. Horatio tried a second approach, but again Calleigh managed to slip away taking her beauty-case to the bathroom. “Nice little hotel,” she said. Now Horatio was more than irritated. “By the friendly recommendation of the CSI New York,” he answered without getting a false tone into his voice. When Calleigh came out of the bath-room again, Horatio took her by the hand and turned her around to him. But he refused an embrace now. “Cal. – What’s up?” he asked silently. Calleigh tried to avoid his analyzing glance, hesitated to answer for a short moment and finally said: “We must talk about this case, Horatio.” “Tomorrow, Cal. Now it’s too late to go through all the evidence.” “Well, this case is only a symptom for a bigger story behind this, Horatio. – The reason why I accepted this travel to New York was, ‘cause of this old case, which could be the reason for all this trouble today.” – And, after a pause which seemed already to last for hours between them: “You have to tell me the truth, Horatio.” “I don’t know what you’re talking about, Calleigh.” But at the same time he scolded him-self: ‘You fool! Of cause she knows about it. Well, maybe she doesn’t know, but she feels the truth.’“I’ve only one question for you and, please, answer it by heart. It doesn’t matter what the answer might be, I’ll learn to handle it, but, please, give me one,” Calleigh pleaded, grabbed Horatio’s hands and hold them in hers. Horatio only nodded and stared with a sad glance at his sweetheart. Calleigh started her question: “Please, go back in your memories to the late 80ies. – After the death of your parents… did you tell to anybody of the Jarheads what went wrong this night? Did you tell anybody that the job of one of the sub-chiefs went wrong? Did they sentence him to death due to your hint? Did you provide them with the needed information?” Horatio stared down at his hands still been held by Calleigh. He was not sure how she would react on his answer. He opened his mouth twice to start his explanation, but did not get out a word. Then he looked into this lovely face of the person he had learned to love and trust in. How would she react? Not answering would not be the alternative… So, he only nodded. TBC

Guess this won't be the most romantic night they could think of...... Is Calleigh's love for H strong enough to deal with the truth? Sandra

Confrontation time. Have a heart Calleigh, at least you could have have let Horatio give you a hug when you first arrived. That was a bit of a kick in the teeth for someone you are supposed to love, even if there are some questions you need answered. so, we now have aggro in the Horatio/Calleigh camp and understanding in Mac/Stella camp........interesting.

Very interesting couple of chapters, Sundancer. So, Mac and Stella have finally began to pursue their feelings, that's good. Hopefully Horatio's answer won't but the brakes on his and Calleigh's relationship, though. I really don't think it will, but........
Can't wait to see what happens next.

Hmmm, just remember that you've trusted in somebody and this very one hasn't told you the truth right away. What would be your reaction? In fact, for Horatio it's a strange situation, especially when he's threatened by ghosts of his past...
Chapter 30
Finally Horatio and Calleigh had laid down each on the opposite end of the bed and had pretended to fall asleep at once. But in their heads the recent talk was still swirling and creating cruel pictures. In Horatio’s memory there was an everlasting rerun of the last moments he had seen his parents alive.
‘Dad! Stop it! Don’t do it! Stop! Stop! Stop!’
‘You lousy bastard! My own flesh and bone is playing tricks on me and this pregnant dog helps him to get through it!’
‘Dad! I told you to stop it or…!’
‘Or what? What sonny? – Just wait a second! When I’m done with her I gonna turn to you at once!’
‘Dad!’
A shot clang.
The next picture just showed him the ambulance with the paramedics arriving, which had only been able to state the death of Laurence and Melinda Caine.
The following nights – while the internal investigation still had been going on – Horatio had gone to the gathering-points of the Jarheads. He had searched for the responsible sub-chief. Horatio had listened to the different talks about this last quarrel between Caine senior and his son. The gang had not been sure what to think about all this.
While listening to the different ways a story could have been told, Horatio had figured out who had given the order to force his dad to get internal information out of his son. In all these stories, Horatio’s mother had not played any role at all. She just had wanted to protect her son against his bullying father… once again… this time it just had gone too far.
When Horatio had been allowed to join his unit again, he had started planning his revenge at once. He had given his colleagues of the gang-crime-unit some special info which had been quite helpful in several police-swoops. The very one evening, when Horatio had planned to make his last swing on the sub-chief, he had been ordered to join another unit working on special crime instead. As soon as he had known this, he had given some internal information to the Jarheads at once, which made able to prove that Horatio’s prey had been collaborating with the police. The recent diverse actions of the police against the gang-activities had been proof enough for the bosses to believe Horatio’s story. Only one night later the people of the crime scene unit, CSU, the predecessors of the CSI, had found a victim of a sniper; one of a thousand in the New York of the late 80ies. But only Horatio had known why a sub-chief of the Jarheads had got the special attention of a killer.
Horatio’s revenge had left no traces. Some suspicion, maybe, but no proves.
Suddenly a little voice came from the other end of the bed and pulled Horatio out of his nightmares. “This sniper seems to be right after you. If you’ve really left no traces, how could he know about you?”
Horatio turned his head into Calleigh’s direction. In the darkness he was only able to estimate her face and it was so hard for him not being able to touch her. “Maybe there’s someone who had counted two and two together, just like you did. Or he was accompanied by somebody, what was not unusual. – The only thing I know about our entire sniper is that he must be or had been member or associate of the Jarheads. By the way he makes all his attacks quite personal, gives me the distinct feeling that it must be somebody coming from the inner circle of this dead sub-chief.”
“Do you remember his name?” Calleigh asked calmly and added in thoughts: ‘Do you know the name of this guy you sentenced to death by spreading some dangerous information?’
“I can hardly remember… But… it was one of those typical Irish names like Sullivan, O’Brian, or else… somebody coming from one of the big families.” Horatio was working on his memory to remember the name, but was not successful…
Dusk was already creating this mystical light of an early New York morning, when Horatio finally fell into a restless sleep. When he woke up again, Calleigh had already left the room for some breakfast. Horatio walked slowly into the bathroom and tried to start this day like any other… but it was not.
