Good chapter. My guess is that she was just trying to protect Horatio. Like I said before the two of them sound a lot alike in many ways.

Oh, they are alike, Deborah, in many ways.
I think she's doing it more to protect Horatio from the bad guys, that and she can't remember why she can't remember certain things about her life, and that's terrifying her to no end.
Hopefully, Alexx can talk her into accepting Horatio's help.
Great job, Celticgirl. Can't wait to see what happens next.

Thanks for enjoying! Here is next chapter....
Chapter 5 Rick Stetler
After Alexx had left, Alida cried herself to sleep; she cried because she wanted her life back, she cried because Alexx, with her warmth and concern, made her open up, and she cried because of a pair of blue eyes.
She awoke a couple of hours later and frowned in confusion as she glanced towards the door, her mind still foggy from the effects of sleep and pain medication. A uniformed officer appeared to be standing just outside. What? Why?
She wondered if she was imagining things at first, but then when she noticed a brown haired man sitting in the chair next to her bed looking at her, she realized she was not imagining the uniformed man outside.
"Miss Alida Marie Hughes?" he asked, looking down at his file.
"Who are you?" she mumbled, flinching, as she reached up to gingerly feel her lip, still swollen from the air bag.
Rick Stetler sat up, flipped his file folder closed and set it aside on the table next to Alida’s bed before opening his notebook and pulling his chair closer to the bed. “My name is Rick Stetler and I am with IAB.”
“IAB?” she inquired.
“Internal Affairs Bureau.” He responded simply.
"What are you doing here?" Alida asked, still looking confused.
"What do you want?” she asked, suddenly feeling uneasy, “Is this about Lieutenant Caine?"
"Actually, yes, he is the reason why I'm here, Miss Hughes." Stetler replied, reaching into his pocket and pulling out a small tape recorder, setting it on the small bedside table.
"I am going to need to ask you a few questions about our Lieutenant Caine," he replied as he turned the tape recorder on, "Some very serious questions about him in fact."
Alida blinked at Rick Stetler; she did not like him one bit, nor did she trust him. “I still don’t understand,” she remarked, “I have not seen Lieutenant Caine since the day of the accident.”
"How about I help raise the bed up a little further? Make it easier for you to stay focused?" Stetler asked, and before Alida could protest, he had raised the head of the bed to a sitting position.
Alida became dizzy for a moment at the sudden movement, and she closed her eyes for a moment, frowning in alarm, as he set the controls back down near her hand.
"What do you want?" she asked again, somewhat tiredly. "Why is there a policeman outside?"
"You don't know Miss. Hughes? Horatio ordered protective custody for you." Stetler replied.
“He did what?” she shouted, causing Rick to jump in surprise, and the guard to look through the glass window.
"Something about someone trying to kill you? I have a lot of questions for you about that, but first there a few other things I need to know."
“What other things?” Alida asked, perplexed, “I don’t even want the guard; I told Lieutenant Caine that I didn’t need or want his help.”
"Just how long have you known Lieutenant Horatio Caine?" Stetler asked, ignoring her, leaning forward, his dark eyed gaze never leaving her face. He knit his fingers together and waited for an answer.
"What are you talking about?" Alida asked.
"The question is self-explanatory Miss Hughes. I'm trying to establish how long you've known Lieutenant Caine. Did you know him when he was in New York?"
"New York?" Alida asked, looking at Stetler, bewildered. “N-“she began, trying to get a word in edgewise.
"Sure, you know, New York, the city.” He answered, losing some of his patience with this woman.
“He did tell you about New York didn’t he?” Rick pressed, “That he has an ex-wife there?”
Alida’s head was spinning.
Rick continued the barrage against Alida, “He told you he lived there didn't he? That New York was where he was also involved in the murder of the man who killed his mother? Surely you knew about this, correct?" Stetler asked, staring at Alida.
Alida, now completely overwhelmed, could only stare at him, her mouth open in shock.
Rick's eyes opened wide in triumph, "Please don't tell me you don't know this about Lieutenant Horatio Caine? He just got subpoenaed for suspicion of murder in that man's death. You didn't know this Miss Hughes?"
"W...what?" Alida whispered, horrified.
"Oh, come on now, Miss Hughes. I am trying to ascertain what you might know concerning Lieutenant Caine's past activities. He's currently under investigation by the Internal Affairs Bureau here in Miami." Stetler said. "Did you know that?"
"No, I swear I didn't, I..." she started to say, staring at the man before her in terror, wanting nothing more then to escape.
"Oh, please Miss. Hughes, I didn’t fall off the turnip truck yesterday" Stetler replied, rolling his eyes at her and sitting back in his chair.
"You expect me to believe that he didn't tell you that he's also under investigation for the death a woman named Rachel Turner? A woman he had been out on a date with a few months or so ago? Who was also stabbed to death the same night they had their date? Horatio Caine was the last person to see that woman alive. He's the prime suspect in her murder. You don't know anything about that either, I suppose, right?"
Alida could only look at Stetler in distress, unable to speak.
Rick continued his onslaught against Alida.
"Well if such is the case, and I am not saying I believe you, then obviously he also didn't mention that his sister-in-law, a Detective Yelina Salas, a woman he was known to have considerably deep feelings for, abruptly disappeared along with her son this past summer.”
Alida stared down at her hands, unable to take much more of Stetler.
“Just how well do you know this man, Miss Hughes?" Stetler asked again, folding his fingers. He tapped his index fingers together, waiting for an answer.
With none forthcoming, Stetler continued his verbal assault on Alida.
"Has he by any chance told you that he has a five-year-old illegitimate niece that he's been paying support for, his own dead brother’s mistress’s child?”
“Has he mentioned at all that his dead brother was dirty cop? It's been my observation, having investigated other cops for a long time now that dirty cops come from the same families."
Stetler watched what little color Alida had in her face, utterly drain. He leaned forward again.
"You know, you claim that he rescued you off the causeway after you crashed your car, that he only stopped by here once to check on you, and that you don't know anything about him.”
“My question then becomes, Miss. Hughes, if that is indeed the truth, what the hell are you so personally involved in that it would make Lieutenant Horatio Caine, a stranger to you, make him order this kind of protection for you?”
Alida was beginning to feel sick; she wanted to just rip out her IV just to get away from this horrid human being. She just stared out the window, and with each accusation he made, she drew back, trying to disappear into herself where there was no Rick Stetler.
Rick, his eyes gleaming at his easy target, kept up the assault, “Being police related, I am compelled to ask questions about it, and as our Lieutenant Horatio Caine is under several very serious investigations himself, we have a lot of questions, and you are going to provide me with some of the answers, whether you like it or not."
Stetler sat back with a self-satisfied smile and added, "Somehow though, seeing that is Horatio Caine we're discussing, I am not at all surprised he wouldn't tell you about the dirty laundry in his closet."
The bile hit Alida so fast that she could only move in one direction. The rail was in the way, and she barely moved fast enough to grasp it before throwing up over the edge of the bed.
Stetler jerked back and up, jumping out of the chair as if on a spring, letting out an aggravated snarl as what little contents were in her stomach hit the floor and his shoes. At the same time, a clip that had been attached to the back of her gown, which in turn had been attached to a heart monitor machine had been pulled so hard at her sudden movement, that it was pulled right off, alerting the nurse's station that something was going on.
-----------------------------------------
"She just got out of surgery and you are the second person with a badge that has upset her!" the nurse shouted at him, shoving him out of the room as another nurse arrived to help Alida, dashing past Stetler, and grabbing the drape that went around the bed, jerking it around, to block his view.
"Wait a second, I need that file!" Stetler objected, trying to walk back into the room. The nurse looked at him in exasperation, reached over to grab the file and slapped it into his chest.
"Now please, just wait outside!" She snapped before diving behind the curtain.
Stetler, looking at his brand new Italian leather shoes in utter distaste, backed out of the room, clutching his file.
In the room, the other nurse, Marci, was gently pulling a visibly shaking, and now weeping, Alida back off the bed rail.
"It's all right, honey, it's all right. Don't worry about it; we'll take care of it. This stuff happens all the time." She reassured as the other nurse instantly began getting stuff from the nearby restroom to clean up the mess.
"Don't let him back in here..." Alida managed to gasp. "Please!" She begged, "Don't let him back in here."
The other nurse, dropping down towels, looked at Alida, whom Marci was helping; inserting the oxygen tubes back in her nose, as well as helping her drink a glass of water to rid her mouth of the sour taste.
"Miss, did he upset you?" she asked as Marci settled Alida back, who had managed to gulp water down as if her life depended on it. Alida barely nodded her head, as she struggled to regain her composure.
"Please don't let him back in here," she pleaded again, reaching up and trying to wipe the tears from her eyes.
"Can I get you anything else?" Marci asked, stroking Alida's hair back as she tried to calm her down as the other nurse, furious now, attacked the mess on the floor, rapidly cleaning it up before wiping down the area with a disinfectant.
"Dr. Alexx Woods..." Alida managed to gasp. "Get Dr. Alexx Woods now, tell her I need her." Alida pleaded. "I need her, now."

That Rick Stetler, oooohhhhhh. He's really going to get it now. You do NOT want to make Alexx made at you for anything.
Terrific chapter, Celticgirl. Can't wait to see what happens next.

I should tell you that I am a person of few words. So If I don't say to much. It is that I'm not that prosy. I know what I like so I say so in a few words. Besides I also have a problem expressing my self so I sound like a blithering idiot sometimes. Did you get my email on your email, I have a problem sending emails in answer to things. I still have a time trying to figure out how to send them. I'm learning.
