Careful Sam! Mich and H aren't married yet!! Remember this is in-between ANB and S&P!

I didn't think they were husband and wife, just yet, but Sam's right, she does need a night out with him for the good job that she's doing. H is also right in that there will be small bumps in the road. As long as they're small bumps, she'll continue to get better.
I also loved the meeting between Dino and H. That was so classic. I'll just bet you could've heard a pin drop in that office. Can you imagine, the double takes they got, especially from poor Paula. I'll bet she nearly had a stroke!
Oh, and then to have Mich and Gaby run away. To let the guys talk. Uh, huh. I'll just bet that Gaby and Mich will have their own talk. Sharing points, and secrets, about their red heads.
Great chapter, Lucy. Can't wait to see what happens next.

PS: I edited my message, Lucy. It seems you and I posted at the same time. LOL.

Hehehe... Thought you might like this little twist... Mind you - this is a H and Mich story, so Gaby and Dino won't be around for that long....
As for today? Well, I'm afraid there might be a little speedbump in the road....
Enjoy

Chapter 20
Horatio watched as Mich toyed with her dessert, a soft smile on his face. Dinner at their favourite restaurant near the beach had been excellent and they had been able to talk and laugh just like they had at the beginning of their relationship.
“Are you ok?”
Mich looked up with a soft smile, but Horatio could see from the look in her eyes that something was bothering her. Seeing her catch her lip with her teeth, he realised that she wouldn’t talk in the restaurant and suggested they moved on, calling for the bill.
Wrapping his arm around her shoulder as they began to walk along the beach, Horatio spoke quietly. “So what’s up?”
Mich gave a sad smile, “Hearing about Stacey makes me think of the case with the Japanese diplomat. Everything I see or hear makes me wonder what I would do if I were in your position, reminds me of my past. I wish it wouldn’t.”
“Why?”
“Because my first thought is always of Sasha… It’s like her ghost is driving me on, making me fight against injustice… I’m tired of fighting.”
“There are many ways to fight Mich.”
The woman next to him sighed and he could see the sadness in her eyes, saw the darkness clouding her mind. “I know, it’s just that…”
Mich swallowed and Horatio could feel the tension building in her muscles as she fought to control the anger, he nodded. “Your training takes the most direct form of fighting.”
Mich nodded and for a moment he became thoughtful. “Mich… Do you see everything as clear cut…? I mean, I have to prove someone has done something wrong before I can take the final action – you just went in and dealt with the situation.”
She smiled, “That’s the thing Horatio. I never had to choose, others collected information – took the decision. I was never judge or jury. Just the executioner.”
“But didn’t you ever think about what you were doing?”
Mich sighed, “At first, no. It was all about the mission, getting in the right place, finding out the person’s routine – choosing the best time. Sometimes I would be told that I had to ‘keep things quiet’, other times I had to ‘send a message’.”
She paused, “It wasn’t until I first met Robert that I had settled a little. I had done some work at home – taking out some of the top people, like my work here in Miami. Dad had just taken over his post at Scotland Yard and wanted me as part of the team. I don’t know how he pulled it off, but I was working intelligence again for a short while.”
“After that, when I was sent back out, I was more careful. Any targets I saw with their kids made me hesitate – especially when Kyra came along. But it was my job, and I did what I had to do.”
Horatio remained silent for a moment, but his curiosity got the better of him. “How many? How long?”
Mich swallowed and spoke softly, “I worked as an assassin for about 10 years. But you don’t want to know any more than that Horatio.”
Horatio narrowed his eyes, Mich wouldn’t look at him, was hiding from him. “Tell me.”
The strength in his voice caught Mich by surprise and she gave in a little. “Two or three. Occasionally more.”
Horatio shrugged his shoulders, “In a year? That’s not so many. Compared to what happens in Miami sometimes…”
Mich sighed and dropped her head, “I’m not talking about a year Horatio. Two or three, a month…”
Horatio’s arm slipped from her shoulder as he stared at her in shock. When he had to take action, it was to protect himself or others – and was always delivered with a warning. Mich had killed in cold blood, with no warning at all.
He turned, looking out across the ocean trying to sort out his thoughts, pulling away from the woman by his side, not seeing the pain that crossed Mich’s face at his action. After a moment he turned back, his face unreadable, “Let’s go home.”
As he lead the way back to her SUV Mich followed quietly, wiping away a tear that had crept out of the corner of her eye.

Yes, even now she has been able to shock him.....This is not all about the Sasha affair..............MICH has never been anything other than a cold bloodied assassin called upon to kill to order. How you are to get over this latest bit of news Horatio, I don't know. You are so different Horatio, not surprised you pulled away from her. Mmm, can see this being a problem for some time.

So glad to see Mich opening up more and more each day. Although Horatio pulling away after hearing that kind of news, really hurt Mich. I mean Horatio pushed for it and she opened up, now he is being abrupt again, what is going through his head? Was this part of his plan? Does he have a plan or is he flying by the seat of pants? Great Chapter.

I agree he has pushed for Mich to open up and he has known he had to do this as he is the only one who has ever had a chance. He has in fact taken her very carefully throughout the whole process, but the man is only human after all and I can understand why he pulled away, partly due to the fact she was lying in the first place and Mich only came out with the full number of assassinations she was performing on a monthly basis when he challenged her as he has to keep doing and doing. He has stood for a lot up to now, but this was like a killer blow to him; so you may be hurt MICH, but what did you expect? ? Margaret

She didn't exactly lie Margaret, Horatio assumed it was a year.... but as for coping with it.... Don't you think Mich will understand how he's feeling?
Lets face it - this is a situation which could let the Wolf loose.... but will she be able to control it?

Well in legal terms Lucy, they would say she lied by omission. She only told when Horatio suspected more and challenged her.
So will the Wolf be released and can she control it........YOU tell me.

No worries Sam.... @ margaret.. and how many of us are guilty of doing this in our own lives, especially if we know its going to hurt someone? As for the Wolf.... You'll have to wait and see.... Lucy

Ladies, I'm going to disagree with everyone. I think she just shocked him speechless, and he doesn't quite know HOW to respond. Unfortunately, Mich is reading the worst. Hopefully he lack of reaction or words doesn't cause the Wolf to come out, but it may. Mich is probably thinking that he's ashamed of her, in which case the Wolf may come out as a protection, and coping mechanism.
If I'm wrong, it won't be the first or the last. **shrug**
Great chapter, Lucy. Can't wait to see what happens next.

@ Lucy.....I agree with you in the main......BUT, she is supposed to be telling the whole truth now with nothing hidden. And, if the wolf does come out, then she is not controlling that temper yet, and Horatio is losing the battle with her. This I do not want to see, he deserves so much more from her now. It has gone beyond the point of not telling the truth to protect someone she loves. TOTAL TRUST.....nothing else now.
