Miami's numbers looked quite good for Monday night. It finished the evening in second place with a strong 15.8 million viewers. I think the ratings are holding steady for the season, if not getting slightly stronger. If someone will remind me sometime on Sunday or Monday I'll try to get the tallies for the entire week and see how we fared. Here's the link in case you'd like to see the chart for yourself. blog.nielsen.com/nielsenwire/media_entertainment/primetime-broadcast-ratings-january-12-2009/em

Okay, I have a bit of catching up to do. First off--the episode on January 19th (And They're Offed). This is for the entire week: And then for this past Monday's episode (Smoke Gets in Your CSIs). This is just for Monday night, since the entire week is not yet complete... em

Not that I want to be the voice of negativity, but I did notice that the rerun of "Ressurection" a couple of weeks ago was not a winner for "Miami". For the first time in many weeks, CSI:M did not make the top 20. Glad new episodes have brought it back to where it deserves to be.

Thanks Emily........looks like they are possibly maintaining that 6th position.....which is good news. Karen...was that a re run that took place because they didn't show a series 7 episode. I have noticed this possibly happening a couple of times.......Over here they show the whole series without any breaks. Not sure why you seem to get the odd week where you show a re run in the middle of the current series. Seems strange to me.

That's not being negative, Karen. I think that's true with any show, really. There are those who didn't see it the first time around and watch the re-run like it's a new episode, thus accounting for the shows appearance somewhere in the top 20. In the case of Resurrection, it probably attracted about all the viewers (almost all of CSI: Miami's audience) the first time around being the ‘second half to a cliffhanger’ so there were fewer who 'missed it' the first time around. There are those who don't like to watch re-runs, those who don't have the desire to watch it again, so they watched something else. I know I don't 'help' the ratings on the nights re-runs happen; I'm flipping back and forth between CSI: Miami and Anthony Bourdain's No Reservations on the Travel Channel. (Something I'd never do on a new episode night as I don't want to miss a single second of CSI: Miami!) The ratings don't mean much to me anyway, No Reservations isn't on the top 20 list and I still like watching that show as second choice on Monday's (after CSI: Miami) instead of one of the other big network (NBC, FOX ect.) shows of which I have not found any interest in at all. But, on the same hand, it is interesting to see by the ratings, just how many other people are watching the same thing I am. LOL. .......Over here they show the whole series without any breaks. Not sure why you seem to get the odd week where you show a re run in the middle of the current series. Seems strange to me. Margaret Well, when they start filming the episodes, they have 3 or 4 in the can before the season starts. So they are a few episodes ahead of the game every season, but to stay that way they have to show re-runs sometimes. Actors take vacation over Christmas and then they have their own personal vacation time....so there are weeks where no episodes are being filmed, so to keep that 'cushon' of time, for post production, like editing, which takes a while. That 8 days we hear about as being the time it takes to film an episode, is just that, 8 days to film it, it takes time to put all that film together into a continuous episode, then you got to do other things as well, like make sure everyone can be heard ok, color is right, then all the special effects, split screens and ect ect.... If someone else can think of a different way to explain that, be my guest. I was stuggling with how to translate what I know into words...

Well said, Krystal. We also have to consider those months considered to be "sweeps" month. This is when all the best episodes are aired so they attract high-paying advertisers. I always thought it was "February Sweeps" but I may be having a dead-brain attack as I have noticed that "Miami is going to be having reruns for a couple of February dates. Is it March sweeps, perhaps? Regardless, we are having more reruns this season than we usually do. I find that just a touch unsettling. What gives?

Krystal thank you for taking the time to explain this in such detail....much appreciated. Thank you also Karen for adding to the information. I know that in the US future current episodes are still in the making whilst early episodes are being shown but I did not realise that the series has so few in the can to start with......and for breaks to occur for vacations thus causing re runs is something I would not appreciate as a viewer. I have to say I much prefer to see any series not just CSI Miami run through without any breaks in between........to me it seems you must lose some momentum for the series. But that is just my opinion. I guess we are all used to the way our different countries handle things. As I am impatient I would find it very unsettling to say the least.
I love to watch the reruns.........and we get plenty of them over here on various channels.....and we have just this week commenced the re runs of season 6.......which will keep me going nicely until season 7 starts in probably July. The ending of the last season re runs usually ends just about three weeks before the new season.
Thanks again both of you.
Margaret

Well, in total CSI: Miami has very good ratings after all. Just take into consideration that at the same day of "They're offed" there had been the "American Idol"-shows who belong to the top-sellers anyway.
considering reruns: I don't think that their ratings are really comparable to the ratings of episodes being aired for the first time.... (only my two-cents)

"Presumed Guilty" brought CSI:Miami up to 5th place in the rating wars last week!
